@MARSHA POWERS A smile back at ya for your kind words. I found "was a drummer" to be an interesting choice of words. If you ever have the opportunity to build a home there's a worthwhile additional expense in adding insulation to every interior wall, ceiling and floor. We raised 3 sons without having to ask them to be quiet when they're not wearing their space suits. Cheers for the Great White North.

Most of things listed in this video can also help if you have a poorly insulated room. I live in a old house and have at least one room that isn't very well insulated, hanging up a blanket against the walls can help a lot especially during the winter.

My advice after hours of watching more videos about cheap soundproofing: 1. Start with easy things like adding a door sweep, sealing gaps with acoustic sealant, heavy curtains, one video even claimed putting heavy 'soft' furniture against your wall helps lessen the vibrations of it. 2. if you are allowed to put screws in your walls (and they are straight) MUCH better than using mattrasses, fabric or even reinsulating: buy 5/8" (1,6cm) thick drywall, put some green glue on it, then glue and screw it to your wall. It only takes off 2cm of your wall, is clean, not expensive and not as hard as it sounds especially if with 2 people. Only downside is the screws and I suppose its not that easy to remove. Ceiling is possible too. 3. acoustic panels are a waste of money unless you use them for sound treating which is something else entirely

You can buy new moving blankets pretty cheap and they are thick and heavy. They absorb a lot of sound. You can also use them to deaden a room's reverb when it affects recording quality. I bought several for about $8 each at Harbor Freight.

Door Sound Proofing Idea: A door frame that goes over the door frame -- a metal hinge screwed into a stud near the door hinges themselves (but some rubber washers perhaps and a rubber sheathing between the hinge and the new frame). The frame will be an insulated box with foam. The idea is that the frame will shell the door's size exactly plus an inch on all four sides. Then around the shell frame, wrap it with an inch or two of insulation so that also it touches outside of the cracks of the door to trap the sound coming through the 4 spaces around the door. Thoughts?

Thanks for the video 👍🏼 I've got a tricky one for you. I want to build a home theater in my concrete-floor-heated basement. Since the floor is concrete, I'm concerned base would travel through the whole house. I thought I'd build a new floor and support it with rubber grommets, i.e. silent blocks. But since I've got floor heating, I need heat to flow from the floor to the air within the room. Anyone up for the challenge? 😁
@deangeloscott

Hey, for this you may want to double up. Build your floor, but also put the subwoofer on a platform also on rubber. The bass vibrates through the platform, which goes through the false floor with less intensity.

Actually saw a studio that did this. Mounted the mattresses to the walls and hung a heavy fabric curtain around the entire area. Can't see the mattresses - looks pretty good. Worked Okay. I personally wouldn't have done this, but it worked okay.
