Suggestion: can you do a video comparing Gullah and krio? Gullah (South Carolina -African American language) it’s similar to krio as the Gullah ppl went to Canada and then came to Freetown in the 1700s bringing over the language. Krio has some Gullah words. There was a girl in Sierra Leone who took an ancestry dna and was confused why it said 6% Native American Indian and listed South Carolina community. Many Sierra Leone’s don’t realize they are part Gullah.

The guy is right. Pan is a krio word translated in English as 'on' which was brought over by the Maroons from Jamaica. The only issue with it is that non- native krio speakers (the other tribes) use it wrongly. Some pan expressions include 'Amos pan dem? (how many of them?)'. Timap pan dem (stand on them) Put am pan me back (put it on my back). Wetin yo dae pan? (what are you up to)? As we can see, pan is clearly a Krio word brought over from the Caribbean by the Maroons. However, it must be used correctly.

English is the official official recognized language and yet a lot of us cannot speak it. It is sad. If we are going with Krio, which nearly everyone seems to know, then we need to standardize the grammar, spelling etc.
@AuthenticAfrican
Жыл бұрын
You are right. It should be this way but everyone in the world does need to know english. It is the international language of business. It all starts in the schools and at home....Krio is standardized and taught in school, but people dont remember it and apply it in everyday live.
@iTuber012
Жыл бұрын
@@AuthenticAfrican honestly in the provinces, kids should be taught in their local language and have English as a class within that school to build their English skills over time. So if in Bo, they should be taught in Mende, Mende should be standardized, grammar standardized etc and the non Latin alphabet for it adopted and used. The Mende alphabet is called kikakyu I believe. Repeat this in Makeni with Temne etc etc in each province. Once they reach middle school, instruction should switch to English. I honestly don't see why Krio is the standard language. It is strange when it has no official legal recognition by the government Private non government funded schools can do as they please obviously
