Hello everyone! This is CuteLab's first eurorack module, show them some love: www.cutelab.nyc Also I finally got around to further build my studio the way I wanted it, but forgot to turn of the starlight generator before recording the video again, I know, there’s one trying to kill me… If you want to get drunk, take a shot on ‘probabilistic’, cheers!

burst generators + prob skippers = fun. ive got a NE funkitus and sometimes ill use loopop's dfam+maths subharmonic trick into the funkitus to get wierd sounds by taking the output from maths into the prob skipper, then offset and amping to turn it back into a regular +/-5v audio signal

Mmmmh nice. Some time ago I played with a logic module to add probabilistic triggers to the dfam, now seeing the functionalities of this module makes me want to expand on those experimentations.

A similari module is the Branches from Mutable Instruments, which is like a dual coin toss: the output is either head or tail. The lower input is normalled to the higher one. As cheap as 99€. In 6 hp
@MonotrailTechTalk
3 жыл бұрын
Indeed, although Branches is a classic Bernoulli gate, indeed like a cointoss between A and B. I like that module has a knob and cv for each channel, then again the MissedOps offers four channels, which works great for an entire percussive section, and some extra features. That's the nice thing about modular these days, so many options :)

@@MonotrailTechTalk Twiigs, another module in this category, has four sections that can be configured to manipulate trigger inputs in three ways. You can order it from Pusherman Productions with all four as probabilistic gates (Branches firmware). Or half of it can be a multiplier/divider or swing generator (Twiigs firmware). In both configurations, the inputs are normalized in a chain. The other useful features are that each section has two outputs, one normal and the other inverted, and each has a probability CV input in addition to manual sliders. The price of Twiigs is the same as MO. The only downside is that Twiigs is 8hp versus 4hp. Your videos are always clear and packed with a bundle of ideas. I'll use what I learned here to up my game with Twiigs. I particularly liked the idea of setting the probability of each step in a trigger sequence. Thanks!

Very interesting ideas as always! Just a question, at 5:08 shouldn't Gate In 3 generate all the blocked ones from Gate 2? (1, 3, 5, 9, 10)
@MonotrailTechTalk
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! 1,3,5,9,10 are the gates passed on to the output of gate1. So in miss mode, the exact opposite blocked gates are passed on to gate 2 (2,4,6,7,8). Of those gates gate 2 blocks 4 and 8, so they are passed on to gate 3 :)

I did notice that leaving density at zero for extended period of time, the MissOps would freeze; I'd have to reboot the unit. did you ever notice this glitch? but I love this thing, bought it based on your demo. then I got another one (and a Twiigs for comparison) thanks

Sorry, missed this comment for a bit! Didn't experience that. If remember right there's a little trim pot to set the 'default' density at the back, and I don't have it set to 0. But glad you enjoy it! :)

Here is another patch idea: Use it with a square wave VCO and the probability output will become a "bit-crusher". Question is this an analog or digital module?

Without cv input to density, what is the probability of a gate outputting?
@MonotrailTechTalk
2 жыл бұрын
There's a tiny adjuster on the back of the module to set the value used without cv input. This also controls the amount of random pulses generated when no input is used in the first gate.

This module feels a little too complex for my liking - I have a simple Doepfer logic module that I use to combine a rhythmic and non-rhythmic signal, and achieve the same with a little more options. More HP though!

Hello there! Appreciate the feedback. To be clear, I never get paid, and am always free in expressing my thoughts. But I have been taking a few free modules along the line. That gives me the possibility to talk about things and ideas I couldn't do otherwise, as it would be way to expensive for me to buy everything I like to explain! But in my plans for the upcoming year there is a lot of focus on my own topics. Writing and performing modular music included. All the best!

Have to agree! Good random functions are hard to find on semi modular or stand alone synths.And they are a lot of fun!
