With 35mm film cut the left hand section one sprocket hole over the frame line, and the right hand side cut on the frame line. With the left hand side overlap, use a single edge razor blade or the scraper tool provided, to scrape away the emulsion from the overlap making sure not to encroach into the frame line. Lightly roughen the base side of the left hand side. Place the left hand side into the joiner emulsion side up and and close pressure pad. Add a small amount of cement along the overlap edge. Carefully position the right hand side base side down on top of the cement and close the 2nd pressure pad. Leave for two minutes to set. open up and remove from the joiner and run fingers along the edge of the join to make sure it is perfectly attached. A whole lot easier with a tape joiner of course. I can remember making up whole cinema programmes with cement joins and it was a slow and tedious process.
