Awesome job. Love the fact that u addressed this color as a 3stage. Some people make this color a lot harder than it needs to be. Smashing that clear 👍🏽👍🏽

Thank you! Absolutely. Many over think this color and create problems for themselves. My main thing with this color is the prep. As long as it’s prepped with a fine grit and smooth it should be fine. Doing it as a 3 stage I feel is much easier and those fine metallics have a nice smooth surface to lay over. 👍🏻

@@everyday_painterhonestly it can be done as a 2 stage. The charcoal mid coat covers good and the black underneath is pointless

ive actually got the same job to do tomorrow! 2 new door shells and blends. same system, same color. reckon its worth doing insides of new doors first ? i feel it will be fine to paint them off . ive only got a couple months experience using spies water. "20 years experience as a smash / custom painter though." painted the color 100s of times in solvent . im all for doing it all apart . its just a 3 layer at the end of the day.. curious as to your drop coat after the 2 coats . too much color will make the metallics stand up . "too wet" i assume your not putting much color on with the first 2 coats . ill be using the same slim kombat but clearing with carbonio MP 1.3.

I purchased some touch up paint for stone chips. They sent me the black base and the clear coat. Did not send me any Grey. They labelled the black bottle 46G. So now my car has black touch up paint all over it. If you buy touch up paint make sure you get three bottles

With the Axalta waterborne basecoats Standox,Cromax, Spies. This color is totally fine as a 2 stage. The charcoal mid coat covers well making the black underneath pointless. That being said after refinishing, the color does not have the same effect as the original factory color. Not sure we will ever be able to replicate the original effect of the gun.

Lovely job as always, never done this colour but I think you could get into trouble with it if you are not carful I checked my system and it's listed there as a 3 stage but the ground coat is just a solid black. I've done the 46V Soul Red and that wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, looking forward to the next one👌🙏👍John UK.

The main thing with this color is the prep in my opinion. It has to be prepped out very very fine. The metallics in this color are very fine. If prepped too gritty they will fall in the sand scratches and get blotchy.

@@everyday_painter The painter I work under has me prep with 1000 grit for blend panels and with this color I typically am even more careful. My only question for this color and soul red is that he says these are quad colors and when he does the black he clears the black and bakes it, then we go back in with 1000 grit over the whole thing and he goes over that with the actual color. The way you're doing it seems much more simple but I wonder if it's because of the paint system we use? We are currently using axalta spies hekker

@@victoriagriffin8996 This video was sprayed in Axalta Spies Hecker as well. That is the system I use. A lot of people do it the way you are describing. Clearing the black then resanding and doing the actual color, but it does not have to be done that way. I prep my repair area in 600 then prep my blend in 1000. Spray it exactly like a normal 3 stage as in this video. I have done it with many of the variants and have had no issues. Paint rep I have has also said the way I do it is fine. Much much easier. As for the soul red color you mentioned, I use a tinted clear for that one. But that is a completely different color.

I think you're talking about his wet bed gun. We spray it in our blend areas to basically make our color atomize better for a smoother looking blend. The wet bed itself is pretty much transparent so it doesn't leave anything behind when it flashes off
