I'm a junior English major in the US, loved hearing your story because I also love writing for most of my life growing up, but after doing a marketing internship, realized that I wanted to work in marketing. It's always interesting hearing about people's experiences in the industry. Having an open mind and a willingness to try new things in college is so important!

So glad you enjoyed it! I would definitely say experience is the best teacher. And you get a lot of hands on experience agency side. I also wouldn't restrict yourself to just the big well known agencies, as from my experience some often operate like big corporates. A small boutique/niche agency will have you stuck into all aspects of a campaign so you know exactly what to do start to finish. Also check out Indeed or jobsite if your starting your search now. Hope that helps! Xx

@@nolimitkk2715 PR isn't for me. However, I enjoy digital marketing as a whole. There's so much to learn and different avenues you can go into. E.g. Social, Paid Search, SEO, Affiliate marketing etc. I'm definitely enjoying this field and currently absorbing as much information as possible. The skills I've gained so far has come in handy in other areas of my life so for me going into digital marketing was a great choice. Such a motivating video! I am happy I discovered you land I am ooking forward to other marketing related videos. I have known already since the start of my highschool that marketing is what I want to do. Right now I am studying international business and planning to do my masters in marketing. Here's my question - what do you think of marketing related experience gained from participating in university provided communities. Does it has any value in the future job market? I am currently a member of a marketing association and planning to become an active member to organize marketing events/conferences. This leads me to another question, Do you have any suggestions if I would like to improve my skills, knowledge and stay up to date with whats going on in the marketing world? Internet is full of articles, books and online courses, so it is difficult to filter out material that truly has quality. Thank you again for the motivation and lots of success!

Thanks for this - it was helpful --- I've got a question though -- do you think it's best to go uni for a degree to follow this career path? Or do you think it would be better to just run your own marketing agency and get experience from there? Or just go for an apprenticeship?

I'd say however best you learn should be the route you take. If via studying and exams, uni is a great route. But if you learn better through practice then an internship or apprenticeship is a great route

Beverly SM hey lovely! So glad you know what career you want to pursue. In terms of a levels I think you have a really good combination there. Hi Umesh. It really depends on what interests you. I think a career in marketing can become quite stale if you're not passionate about the products and services you're marketing. Most people tend to go down the FMCG/Entertainment route as it broadly speaking seems to be the most interesting as far as consumer marketing goes. However I went down the B2B marketing route and wound up in the IT/Financial Services space, which I really enjoy and pays well :)- Also you don't have to be in a sales position at all to pursue a career in marketing, but I imagine it can provide useful insight. Hope that helps!

Hi i would really appreciate it if you could give me advice, i am still in secondary school and i need to think of what i want my career to be. The past year my fav subject is business studies, then i looked into marketing myself online and found out that i am really interested in how business market their products to customers, why some businesses are better than others when they have similar products etc.. i think i am more into digital marketing as i like checking out how products are promoted on social media. I think i am interested in it and kinda want to look into it further in uni but... after checking out what marketers do for a job i feel like i might not like it.. i am not a socialable person, i stay at home most of the day and dont like going out with friends, i dont talk much either so.. is marketing a job for me? I like it but i dont like the talking and meeting people part, i want to find a good paired job in the business industry that isn't boring like accounting zzz not really good at maths

Presence Tse hi Presence - you should maybe look into marketing operations which is more technology focused but does include things like reporting on marketing campaigns and setting them up - it's very specific and I think you'd probably still need to do a marketing degree or a general internship xx

Do you think if i had an apprenticeship in business admin or IT and then decided to do marketing at uni it would work?

So long as the universities/courses you want to apply for accept that, then I’m sure! 👌🏾

Hi there. It really depends on your role, seniority and industry. There's no real ballpark unless you know the specifics. I'd say the best thing to do is type your desired job title into a google search and add salary and the industry e.g. marketing executive salary insurance industry xx

Hi i am planning to do marketing in uni probably in Aston. I have learned that you don't really need degree. So do you think the degree was useless? I have learned that I need to know how to manage campaign therefore need to know SEO, PPC and social media. Do you think it is better to learn these skills without going to university?
@NodreenK
7 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say it was useless as I made a lot of contacts and gained a year of work experience doing it which helped. I would say that a lot of the theory I learnt however hasn't always been put into practice. So I'd say its always best to just learn in the way that works best for you. Whether that's in a job or whether that's in an educational institute. Xxx

If you could find some way to get some work experience (paid or voluntary) its a good place to start. Maybe put the word out on your Facebook to see if anyone knows someone who works in marketing that could take you on. Or head onto LinkedIn and reach out to marketing directors on there to see if they'd be looking to take on an intern xx

Hey hun - I don't see why not. Marketing is one of those career paths where it doesn't necessarily matter what your degree is in. It's all about getting experience in the field xx

Reeaz Ali there’s many different aspects of marketing! It does help to know how to write though and sell from your words. But you can learn to develop websites by learning programming and coding or graphic design since a lot of those are big parts of marketing. You can also just work with numbers and reports and become a marketing analyst.

Thanks for this video it's quite helpful. I've done a Dip of Marketing along with Graphic design degree. I will have to check out those email marketing programs. Do you find that MailChimp is bigger now (in light of this video being from 2015) than the others? P.S. Hope you don't mind a compliment, you are beautiful! ;-)

Thanks for watching Chloe. It depends on the size of the company I find. The larger corporations tend to use something more involved like Eloqua, Marketo or Pardot, but most small to medium sized firms don't see the need for it and stick to a simpler solution like MailChimp xxx

Is a minor in Marketing as good as a major?
@NodreenK
2 жыл бұрын
I’m not 100% familiar with the US system and the difference between a minor and a major but I’d say the most theoretical and practical exposure you can get the better.
@rudirooted4906

@@NodreenK It really depends. Minor means you have to take fewer classes for it, but depending on the program, it could all be fluff.
