Not trying to be critical but shouting " clear " again would have been a good idea right before the actual start up . There was a good 15 seconds or so pause since you shouted " clear prop " the first time . People or animals can walk too close to the nose in that time . It's known to happen .

Do you have to prime the engine when warm start
@JacksonLaRue
3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the plane. Some planes require a small prime again, others say to skip that step. In the 172sp, you didn't need to prime for a warm start. How warm and recent the shutdown was plays a big part.

What do you mean vacum alright? Why do you have to lean on taxi?
@JacksonLaRue
4 жыл бұрын
I meant that the vacuum gauge was in the green. It's a check to see if the engine driven vacuum pump is generating suction that a few of the instruments need to spin their gyros (attitude indicator and direction gyro). These fuel injected Cessnas need to be leaned on the ground to avoid carbon buildup on the spark plugs which can foul them. If you notice a rough engine when you do a normal engine runup, it could be caused by a fouled spark plug. You can try a higher RPM runup for a longer period of time and attempt to burn off any carbon on the plugs.

ok i give :) this is the 3rd vid' i watch on HOW TO START A CESSNA 172 ,,,and i still don't know if u 'PULL' the throttle thing or 'PUSH' the throttle thingy to rev up the motor (Grrr) i guess a newbie (MEEE) is jst suppose to know that?
@JacksonLaRue
9 жыл бұрын
Hi Amanda, the short answer is that pushing the throttle control [the black knob] IN will rev up the engine. PULLing the throttle knob out all the way will put the engine in a stable low speed idle. The red knob right next to the throttle is the mixture control. This controls the fuel to air ratio for this fuel injected type of engine. Pushing the mixture knob in all the way will give you the richest setting. Pulling the red mixture knob out all the way will lean the engine so much that the engine WILL die. This is how you turn off the engine of this airplane. After the engine stops spinning, you will then turn off the electrical system which consists of turning off the magnetos by turning the key left, and flipping the Avionics and Master switches OFF.

@cliftonjames785

Mdw 159 was that a question? I'm new to flying, but I always thought once you're done priming the engine and it's started, you leave the mixture knob all the way in for a little under a minute, then pull it back an inch or two before taxing and take off. I've seen people leave it in all the way during the duration of the flight, while others pull it out a few inches before taking off

Hi yeah, Who is this exactly? (you can message me through FB. Yeah for these newer fuel injected Lycoming engines, throttle 1/4in. open, crank starter, as the engine is catching, smoothly increase mixture semi quickly to full rich. Why do they make planes so hard to see out of the front window? And with all the new advanced technology why so many things to push and turn on and turn off and then they have you looking at an iPad while your "flying the plane" who would want to go through all that to fly a plane that you can't see the runway in front of you when you are really landing the plane? Looking for a new generation of Flying without all the hinderances and lack of visibility not to even mention the cost of all this...Flying made easy!

A 172 with a fuel pump? The 172 I learned in didn't have one... Now I'm training in a Cherokee and it seems like one more thing to have to remember to do. I thought 172's didn't need them since gravity would do most of the work.
@JacksonLaRue
8 жыл бұрын
You are correct, the fuel is gravity fed. This fuel injected 172sp uses the pump to help prime the engine before cranking it over. The pump is also used in the case of an engine failure due to a fuel line vapor lock. The pump helps force fuel through the line and clear any air bubbles.
