I'm starting up a small business that falls under Cottage Food Items. Our State requires all packaging be done in a commercial kitchen. I have a DBA (still learning and researching what this actually does). But, If I'm just packaging my food Items at a rental commercial kitchen; would I still need Insurance on my business? Please Help!

I am wanting to open my own meal prep service and also sell non-hazardous goods. I have another question about renting commercial kitchens: purchasing the ingredients/goods. My customers will be receiving ready-to-eat meals. When renting a commercial kitchen, how would I purchasing the goods? Can I use a vendor like Sysco? Or would I have to purchase them in bulk, like at Cosco or Sams and do you have to have a license to do so? Thank you so much for uploading these videos. I can help answer this question. I had a gourmet marshmallow business in KY. The answer to your question on where to buy is "all of the above". Anywhere you can get a great deal on ingredient prices. I used Webstaurant.com a lot as their prices were good. Watch out for shipping rates, though. Because what I was doing was not high volume, I didn't go through Sysco but I did talk to them at one point. Here in KY, I didn't need s special license to buy food from other places. I did use my EIN number to sign up with Webstaurant.com as a business. I made Bourbon marshmallows so I did need a special liquor license to sell them. Hope that helps. Salt is considered a safe food, so I doubt you would need a commercial kitchen. In California you do not. You just need a class a or class B cottage food license which is easier to get

hello you can ONLY if your local laws in the city allow it. many cities allow much of the food rpoduction to be done on trucks, but there are some that say a commissary are what you need.

cookked rice bowls would need to be in commercial kitchen.....cottage foodlaws for home food business wont allow it

Do you have any videos that you recommend where to buy equipments such as: bowl sealing machines, microwaveable bowls etc. and do you have videos on what type of licensing would be needed. I know you spoke on cottage food, but like you said I would have to use commercial kitchen. Again, thank you so much for taking your time to pass down knowledge.
