I’ve been doing mobile auto detailing for 16 years daily. I’m 54 years old now and I have to find a way to not labor as much as it’s getting really hard on me. I’ve always wanted to up my headlight restoration sales and replace my detailing sales. My first crack at it was advertising in one small town that’s pretty poor with a lot of older cars at a very low price point of $60 since I didn’t have to travel far and it totally failed as I learned from that experiment. It’s not the price point that matters it’s finding customers who care enough to pay. for my next attempt will be the rich section of my area at $100.

Never too late to try something new! I will say, a good mojority of our customers are actually customers with older vehicles ha between 2012-2018. Hard to say thats considered "older" but in headlight time, its right where the oxidation peaks. You'd be very surprised at how the wealthier customers try to negotiate on the price, and also go with out cheaper option. The next video that I'm posting will go over how to market your headlight restoration business. May I ask, what type of advertising are you doing?

Hi Brad, thanks for the videos. I am catching up with you from Perth Western Australia and see a lot of similarities between the way you are running your business and what I hope to do when I get up and running. Some quick questions in the meantime though : Is the vehicle OK to go once the restoration is complete or do you have to allow the product to set before it can be driven. I notice some processes suggest waiting 24 hours before driving. Does the weather affect the process. Can it be done on very cold or hot day for instance Are some seasons typically busier then others, if so which. What do you use to remove the tape residue from the paint. Thanks for your help. Steve

Hi Steve, thank you for the support, and I'm happy to help you with your business! So I tell my customers to let it sit for about 45 minutes before driving, but the clear coat with be tack free in about 10 minutes. I tell this just to be safe, and no pressure washing for 24 hours. Yes, weather plays a big part. I avoid raining days, since the humidity can effect any clear coat's curing process. Yes can be done it hot and cold days, it just depends on how you are applying it. We are busy all year round, but it seems the summer time and closer to winter are our busiest times of the year. I use rubbing alcohol to remove any sticky residue from the body panels.

Do you ever get any comebacks? Where do you live...because I'm in Denver and these winter months can be tough lol. Man...I was a service advisor at a dealership too, so I felt this with your background! Stoked for your success!

Hi Phil, Were in Sunny Florida. No, not for issues with haze or yellowing. In the few years we've only had maybe 2-3 redos, with all being preventable like a big water drip falling from top to bottom of the lens after application, or a customer not following directions, touching the light after spraying etc. Restorations can still be done in the winter times. As long as the can is at room temp when being sprayed, and you're using a UV curing system (We will be offering on the site soon). For the winter months you could even us a small 5x5 enclosed tent to do the restorations in. Yes, service advising taught me a tremendous amount which carried into this business. Especially at a very high end dealer where customer service had to be impeccable.

@StartRestoringHeadlights I really appreciate and respect the answer and help here! Funny enough, I just got a free set of headlights off Nextdoor and as heading back home as we speak and am gonna do a test run on them. Lexus is350. Your videos have really helped me to find that direction. In 2020, I was let go from covid job cuts and the first business that came to mind was headlight restoration, but never followed through with it, now I have that spark again! I appreciate you a ton!

I'd like to try the Nextgen UV hardcoat, I currently use Glasweld's products which are fantastic and their hardcoat is self leveling which I like but want to experiment and get that "pop" and crystal clarity that lasts years, been doing it up here in Alaska for 2 years and the service is definately needed..

I'm not familiar with Glaswelds. I'd have to check out shipping policies for Alaska, since we aren't able to ship via air, only ground.
