How do I do this when the starting and end walls are both unsquare? I have seen people scribing the floor on the first and last rows so that they are cut to match the crooked walls, and that leaves the rest of the floor straight with the center of the room. Do I need to have a straight line in the center of the room to be able to keep it all straight? Thanks
@MrYoucandoityourself
3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you need straight line.
@Prodigy121212
3 жыл бұрын
You can never change the fact that the walls are straight or not. You just need to make sure that the flooring is straight no matter if you start from the center of a room or the longest outside wall. You can determine if it’s straight by using a chalk line. Starting from the longest outside wall gives your floor integrity and you will not have to chase it as much or worry about it shifting as opposed to starting from the center of the house.
@brandonmississippi1
3 жыл бұрын
@@Prodigy121212 Thanks. Unfortunately for me the long outside wall was the worst, as it was not only not straight, but had a big bow in the center. I got the floor laid by getting a line from the center points on both sides of the room, plus a little eye judgement. It didn't come out perfectly straight, but it's not terrible. It was a tough room, being long and narrow. The cutoff of the end pieces was the same for both sides, so I figured it would be close enough, but not quite. Still, I'm pretty satisfied considering the challenge of it.

Make sure starter row does not move. I cut pieces of flooring 5" long. interlock with starter row and screw them to the floor. Now the flooring does not move. Putting full flooring boxes on starter row helps but for sure is not full proof. Then when done. Remove screwed down flooring and install the last plank.

The width of the board to the wall is of concern. Like in the main hall if you have a half of plank on one side it should be very close on the other.side. The length is not noticeable for it bleeds off under the trim. For an install I did. I found out down the road the customer would like flooring also in the hallway. So I based everything off the hallway then worked into the other rooms. I had to adust inwards 1/4" for one door jam. So hallway will be off on one side by a 1/4" That is acceptable for a finished look.
