This I formation is priceless! Thank you bro,!!! I've been stressing over the PC and DAW part of this process.. I can build PC's but mac's aside from ram and storage are pretty much set. But I can build a small PC with a fast CPU, decent amount of ram, and I've got tons of storage already. So now it's just a matter of finding the right DAW to use.

I made so many bad recordings myself until I found out that I really have to use less muffling, let that drum ring and breath, otherwise everything sounds muddy. Too much ring can be tamed, too less can not be fixed other than using samples and who wants that.

Great video! I noticed two things. Typical input levels of logic would be -18 average. -6 is too hot. Secondly after you record, gain staging is not to bring down the volume of the channel strip but, average the signal to -18 in both mics by using gain staging methods (there are two - plugin and from the logic top left corner window). Good stuff! Cheers

@@JeffRandallDrumming Thanks Jeff. I have a Trilogy kit as well so I was a bit curious. I did watch the video and sounds like (based on your snare tuning example) you are doing the "reso slightly higher than batter" for toms, which is what I normally do as well. I also noticed that you're using coated emperors as well which I've yet to try on those drums (I'm doing coated ambassadors at the moment). Anyway, I look forward to more of your videos. Keep up the great work! You are one of my favorite teachers on KZitem, very inspiring for sure! Thanks!

That still sounded really good before you mixed, was that audio completely raw? I have no idea about music engineering but I love playing drums and really want a decent sound quality, hoping that I can take drums further in my life. However, I'm going to uni and I don't have much money so I'm on a very limited budget, and all the gear I see is way to expensive at the moment. My kit isn't the best and I'm sure the uni kits won't be great either, so I don't see much point spending lots of money on mics and other gear. Does anyone have any cheap recommendations?

Great Video! What I'm wondering is, how exactly to use the ear monitors? What I mean is, do you plug them into the audio interface or your computer you're recording with? Are you listening to a track while you play? can you listen from another device while playing, like is there an "aux in" on the interface. Of all the videos I've watched, I haven't seen anyone talk about this, Thanks!

Man that’s a super common problem for everyone including myself. It usually has to do with having too heavy of a hand on the hats and they just bleed into all the mics. I’d try lightening up on them as much as you can. Check out guys like Aaron Sterling. He barely touches them at times and they still comes through the mix. And maybe try and get some darker hats if you have the funds.
