At Ambleside Park Jane shares how to start to sketch and explains some of the basic materials she takes with her, including pencil crayons, watercolours and charcoal/pastel pencils. Along with the inspiring scenery, she touches on using a sketchbook of previous drawings for inspiration. Then she shows us how she sketches the gestures of the place with an ink marker, using both the think edge of the chisel as well as the tip for finer line. She adds that various pressure can be used to get darker and lighter areas and to think about the space and what catches your eye. She mentions trying blind contour drawing where you focus on the outline of a subject without looking at the paper. She decides to include two silhouetted figures and is happy to take in the darks and lights for the first sketch of the day on location.
