Some years ago I lost 160 pounds. I did it the hard way, counting calories and exercising. It took a year and a half: I didn't gain it overnight and I wasn't going to lose it overnight. My doctor was thrilled. So was I. :-)

@@Suziwellbeingchannel You can do it! I weighed myself every week, same time, same day, same clothes, and kept a spreadsheet. There were a few weeks where the numbers weren't great. So be it. In the end they were. At 59 I will never be as skinny as I was when I was 18. Not that I'd want to be. I looked anorexic. Being that skinny isn't flattering when you're middle-aged. I had very clear motivation: I wanted to learn to fly airplanes and while I could pour myself in to a 172 I couldn't get the seatbelt around me. I was crushed but motivated. On the way down I went through several interim wardrobes. Nobody ever talks about that. Whining that none of your clothes fit because you've lost weight gets very little sympathy. :-)

YoYo dieting all my life now I’m 56 type 2 diabetes and it doesn’t run in my family. I messed my body up. I wish I ate the right calories and exercised safely and affectively. You are spot on with all of this information. Years ago I thought keto was the greatest thing. Found out the hard way it’s not sustainable. Since then I’ve been working with a Coach who has Hey similar perspective as you. I started at 240 pounds, currently down to 190 pounds. This was all done by counting calories, making sure I hit my macros, Resistance training three times a week half hour each session and working 10 to 15 Thousand steps today. It’s not rocket science, just common sense. Last time I was down to 190 pounds was over 30 Years ago. Thanks for staying consistent with your beliefs Jillian and keep up the great work.

I've spent the past few days researching 'diets' and 'weight loss programs'...I have been doing 'bootcamp' now for almost a year, with the 2020 goal to "get stronger". I have achieved this goal & am noticeably stronger, but I am still overweight. Hence my look into 'diet programs'. I love what Jillian says here, it's about a calorie deficit and exercise...well, ok, I have the exercise part done and now need to look at my diet, which I now know to mean "a calorie deficit whilst maintaining the necessary macros for my health!". Thanks, Jillian...I always suspected that Keto/Paleo/LCHF etc were not really good for health. I need to start eating all the macros, but watch the daily calorie intake.

I think the hardest part is realizing that your diet calories are your maintenance calories. I used to weigh 171lbs. I don't my old maintenance calories but I ate all day. I went on a diet and ate 1800-2000 calories per day and went down to 133lbs and held it to this day for about a year. My diet calories are now permanently my maintenance calories and at first it was hard. But now it's effortless. Btw, I'm a female and 5"3. My current exercise is just mild core strengthening everyday. No cardio. Lol. But on my weight loss journey I did do more resistance training and cardio.

Hi Jillian, I am curious about what exercise you would recommend to strengthen the heart. For example, would a steady pace running over a long period of time be better for heart strenghtening than say, HIIT running or exercise for shorter periods? Asking because my physically educated partner keeps telling me this is the case (the former scenario being the better one for heart health) and I am curious to know more about it and why. Thank you!

Back in 2016 I had gotten myself to the heaviest I've ever been, 258 pounds and I'm only 5'7". I have been in shape and an athlete all my life up to that point. I was going through a divorce and had a lot of depression and anxiety. I was stress eating and literally gained 65 pounds in less than a year. In 2017 I was sick of how I felt and looked, so I went on a whole food diet with a few supplements, creatine and a good men's multivitamin. I didn't really calorie count, just ballparked it. I also did one day a week fasting and did a 48 hour fast once a month. I stuck to only meats, select vegetables and select fruits. Pretty much only about 8 to 10 foods. Beef, high fat beef, spinach and broccoli, blueberries and strawberries, Greek yogurt and Kefir for the probiotic benefits. Fish, cottage cheese. For my workout I did the typical bodybuilding split, 2 muscle groups a day so training every muscle group twice a week with 1 or 2 days a week of complete rest and recovery. I also did yoga every morning and 30 minutes of cardio. Also I knew I had to address my mental health so I got really into guided meditation of close to an hour a day and did counseling weekly. Plus listening to health and fitness podcasts during my workout. It took me most of 2017 to get back down to my ideal weight of 180 to 185 but I also put on close to 10 pounds of muscle

I used to count my calories. Personally, for me. I got obsessed with the numbers. I would get so stressed out because I overthink every small thing. I got obsessed over the numbers going lower and lower. I started getting my calories to be 600 a day and it satisfied me. Of course, I ended up binge eating and gained back everything fast. I will not count calories again because I get obsessive over the numbers. This time, I want to of course be mindful of what I am eating and allow myself to have "crap food" in moderation and workout this time. This is me personally though but it works for a lot of people. I just struggle with eating disorders!

I also exercise almost every day I turned 60 last year and found out I had T2D been on it for almost 18 months and have lost 94 lbs. I feel great I eat below 50 carbs now to maintain my weight. I stay away from processed food and make everything practically from scratch. I also eat lots of greens. This is all part of a healthy Keto diet. I also eat fish too. All my blood numbers are perfect now. I feel like I'm 30. I do sometimes cheat for birthdays and holidays. I plan to loose just 9 more pounds to be 127 like I was in my 20s.

I don’t think starvation mode is real. I also have hypothyroid which lowers my metabolism but I have an incredibly fit body with abs. I think low calories is unsustainable mostly for psychological reasons

You are so wrong about weight loss - so glad I never got sucked into advice like yours. You maybe someone’s trainer but not mine. How successful in the long run have been your trainees? Organize a reunion on the looser.

Didn’t the “Biggest Losers” gain all the weight back?

Yes. They stopped moving. Starting eating the way they were before they were on the show. They also were not working out 6 hours a day.

Thank you!! It really is all about the basics. You don’t need to go buy another health magazine/get into another diet program to tell you that. Eat a balanced diet. Workout. Ensure you’re hitting your g in fiber. Drink water. Watch your sodium. Eat veggies.... it is what it is! Just do it!!

Love this video. I’m down 56 pounds since beginning of 2020. Now my body is at a stand still no matter how much I try. How do I move past a plateau?

Once a week eat more calories, 1600-2000, and get your heart rate up more than usual. The body gets bored, and needs a change.

I was stuck for 3 months after 44 lbs lost even though I counted calories and worked out almost every day. Now I started doing intermittent fasting and my weight is finally going down again! 16:8 didn't work for me, so I'm doing 5:2 now which is perfect for me. There are many different ways of intermittent fasting and you need to find one that fits your lifestyle. You can also try what Miranda said first and eat more calories once a week, but for me this didn't work, neither did changing up my exercise routine. I gained a lot of waterweight over night and as soon as the water weight was gone again after 1-2 days my weight was stuck again. I tried everything and nothing helped except for intermittent fasting 😊 Good luck on your further journey!

Hi can someone pls explain something to me. Jilian or whoever. If I'm on a 1200 calorie diet and say I burn 300 calories exercising. Should I eat another extra 300 calorie or stay in the 1200 calorie range. An explanation to this would help me out alot thanks ❤

tharika fuhrer Don’t take into account the calories burnt in your daily exercise, just view it as how intense you went that day. Base your calorie deficit on your food intake :) also I personally recommend not going in such a aggressive deficit for a slow but sustainable weight-loss

As a 56-year-old who's tried "everything" except sticking to a calorie plan/workout combo, this was just the kick in the *ss I needed. I love your blunt honesty, so thank you. Hoping to hike the AT in a few years, so here's to kicking my own *ss. Happy New Year!

I need to lose 20 lbs. I’d like to do that with 4-5 days of spinning and 3 full body weightlifting days. How do you get all of this training in and still have a day off? Is it practical to spin and lift on the same day? Seems it’s the only way to get in enough sessions of each.

there’s no scientific evidence that proves it helps losing weight, besides spot-reduction fat is a lie (if you think it will help shrink your waist)

if you work out, eat right, it will work!! But then you wouldn't really need it. However, I'm not sure it's safe for your organs, per 2 medical professionals I have asked.
