You nailed the challenges of shooting Caddo Lake from a kayak. I have been shooting there from a kayak for over 10 years, sometimes from a submerged tripod. It is definitely a challenge but when you get that shot it means so much more.

Daggone it, Michael. Now you've got me remembering when I bought my first DSLR about 8 years ago! I was actually inspired by you, no less. I was randomly recommended one of your videos, the EXISTENCE timelapse. After that, I had to get a DSLR. I picked up a Canon Rebel T6 as my starter camera and I did the same thing as you. I photographed so much random stuff. It was both a way to learn how to use the camera, but it was also a way to learn how to compose subjects. I didn't know what I was doing, but it was so much fun to experiment. 8 years later and I am much more refined and picky, but I think that comes with getting better. I know you mentioned not to be so particular so you can open up and experiment, but I'd argue that if it weren't for your refined eye, you wouldn't capture the images that you do. I'd experiment, but do it within all the techniques that allow for a composition to work. You have amazing work, Michael. can't wait to see what you do for 2024! Cheers!

Beautiful images and great year Michael! I remember each of these videos (looking forward to the upcoming vlog from Texas!). Your pushing the comfort zone video shooting patterns on the beach (image # 3) was one of my favorites. You have such a good eye for abstract patterns. With an ability like that, you can get compelling images anywhere. The puddle shots in NY are an example. Thank you for sharing your images and wisdom in 2023 and please keep it coming in 2024!
