These are all very good tips. Somehow I've been doing this all my life, naturally. Maybe it has to do with me being an introvert. I never wanted to draw attention or stand out. Heck I'd even like to be invisible most of the time. I don't go out to socialize or show the world what clothes I have - I'm simply goong about my business wheter it's shopping or other errands. I don't want to be interrupted by others. It's good that others promote this type of strategy.

Years back, their was some kind of SF event in the UK. One of the tasks of the participants was to get into the UK through an airport without being recognized. Oddly, this reminds me of a TV show I saw where a high powered attorney ended up with a case in a county where the jury pool would be middle income and below. He changes his suit from Armani to JC Penney off the rack, same for shoes, and switches his Rolex for a Timex and combs out his $500 haircut. He tells the junior partner, "They don't like rich people there, you need to look like you belong there if you want to connect with the jury". I always thought that sounded like something a person on the run or just trying to not be seen would do. The theoretical "Gray Man", if such a thing actually exists.

@@jackreacher5667 Ha, Ha JackReacher. My Country Boy Friends setup a “Drive-by” scenario complete with mannequins all dressed up. First “tips” were from that experience. I have had been around some trouble and needed “resources” and “change of clothes”. I grew up in Chicago and some tips are simply life experiences. I travel with a bassboat from Canada to the Florida Keys and you will run into “sketchy” folks at boat ramps, gas stations and restaurants. In college I ran a company in Chicago that was next to a Currency Exchange and a three-story VD Clinic in a shitty neighborhood. Ya had to be “crazier” than those around you to be left alone. One (biological) point to add: Since humans have predators eyes, if you are alone, try to stand still or at least move as aware and slow as you can, because predator eyes are specialized on detecting movement...
@bdcochran01

You reminded me of something. Predators are detected to see motion and scan horizontally. Learn to see in rays. This means stand still. Pick an area. Look at that area with your vision going from top to bottom. Take narrow width sections and work them. I was trained in man tracking, individually, in teams and motorized. If someone is standing still and observing you, you will be able to detect that person. You will be able to see objects that do not move and otherwise would escape your predator vision.

The members of a pop band that I follow often wear a variety of "fake" glasses in photo shoots because the glasses alone change their appearance drastically depending on the mood they are going for. There are a number of online prescription glasses companies that sell nice frames for less than $20 and will place clear glass lenses in the frames.

I have noticed that these days, "normal" is generally one, a combo, or all of the following: 1. Overweight 2. Rainbow colored hair 3. Piercings on the face 4. Tattoos 5. Ripped clothing 6. Wearing filthy sweats, pajamas, or slippers in public 7. Generally ill-kempt (unshowered, unbrushed hair, basically looking as if they just got out of bed) 8. Inappropriate clothing (too small, too tight, too revealing) 9. Generally sickly looking (in pain, pale, rashes, dragging their feet, listless expression...) Finding a person in public who doesn't present any of these things is rare unfortunately.

Unfortunately you’re right! We went to a 1940s event today and made the effort to go dressed up, I wore a suit and a cravat with a trilby hat. My wife wore a pretty dress, a wool coat, high heels and a handbag from the era. Her hair in a ‘victory roll’ and 1940s makeup. We looked dam smart imo and several people commented and took photos of us.

I learned early (maybe at the age of 10) that minimizing attention in a world where anonymity is possible is an extreme advantage. One does not get registered by strangers, forgotten really fast even when doing the strangest things, it also benefits directly by achieving what is expected by the crowd by moving with the crowd almost automatically. On the other hand this lifestyle puts you at a big disadvantage regarding a very important thing: It also reduces attention of the (probably sought after) opposite sex. Honestly I also don't know a solution to this as I'm living like this for over a decade now. Normally I do not even comment as it could draw unwanted attention, but maybe the viewers here do/did experience the same issues as I did...

I am not a bit conspicuous looking. Short, aging, not particularly well-dressed, no expensive jewelry, but I am almost always armed and try to be aware of risks and my environment. I like a quote from the film "The Bodyguard", where Kevin Costner's character is told that he doesn't look like a bodyguard, and he replies "This is my disguise." Keep a low profile and fewer people will have any interest in you. And yes, I am single, lol.

"Look normal". I'm an Aussie living in Japan. That ship has sailed! 😆 Jokes aside: Observe how people walk and move, and duplicate that. Learn how to walk in a relaxed way that looks like you don't care. Teach yourself how not to overreact to people and situations, especially if you're worried about being noticed. That's the real art of staying invisible.
