What solved this issue for me: 1000s of swings with a chair behind me backside/butt touching, never lose contact with chair thru whole swing. Faster method: push chair away with left hip at impact. This definitely keeps you down on the ball. James from Palm Beach

Hi Todd, great lesson. Rick Smith taught me about 30 years ago that to stay down and thru the swing, initiate the swing with left hip, swing thru with head cocked right (ear down ) and follow completely thru like you would skip a rock. From the rear view you finish with your upper body tilted right from the hip- - all good players finish this way. On your last swing that’s the way you finished ie., upper body tilted right arms high. Also allows your arms to extend, not chicken wing. This has worked for me for 30 years and I’ve never changed it and had a lot of success (club championships, etc) that way.

In all the golf videos I’ve watched on KZitem no one has ever described “standing up”. Yes they talked about topping the ball and lifting but not described as “standing up”. This instantly resonated with me and describes my problem. I will start on the fixes you described starting tomorrow. I knew about the feet flare but not the hip hinge. The Jack Nicklaus tip was given to me with the wrong eye, so when I’ve tried that I’ve been locking my head instead of freeing it up. 😂 thank you for a very good video. As a fellow teacher I find you recommendations insightful. I find with my students who stand up (come up out of the swing) is most often due to poor swing sequence- they start the down swing from the top and results in a very rushed downswing. I would appreciate your insights on this. Great video. Thank you!

I played four terrible rounds in a row since the courses opened, and THIS and putting are killing me. I was pleased to see this as today's video, and am glad I have subscribed. As a senior golfer, with some serious disabilities, I find your tips to be very helpful, and they seem geared more to "regular" players, rather than near scratch golfers. Thanks. At 3:13 or so, I put my cursor on the top of your head and pushed play before your swing. After your swing, my cursor is almost at your neck, so it's pretty clear to me that you're standing up. In slow motion, your head is at the same spot, almost, during setup as when you make contact with the ball, which is what you're trying to demonstrate, but you're definitely standing up after contact is made with the ball. All that said, thanks for all the great videos.

Enjoy your videos and have found many of them useful. I'm 77 years old but still fairly flexible. Last year I decided to go to all hybrid clubs with single length shafts. My 6-SW are all 7 iron length. I have Adams 3-5 hybrids that I have not changed shaft length as yet. My main issue seems to be hitting a lot of weak toe shots. Could you do a video on set up and proper swing for those of us that are using hybrid club sets and more so in my case with single length shafts. Thank you for all you are doing to help us more mature golfers.

Good morning Todd from San Antonio. Always appreciate your help. I’ve been struggling a lot from greenside bunkers (I bet you have content around that already). Would love to see a future video around that.

Hello Todd Mike from Oregon. Great lesson. I used what I learned from your lesson yesterday. The one thing I was forgetting to do was turn my head as part of my set up but I think the more I work on the setup the more it will become second nature. Thanks again. Any chance you can do a lesson on hitting the ball when it’s either below your feet or above your feet? I definitely struggle with this shot as to setup. Keep it up with the great lessons!

From Huron, South Dakota. Thanks for the tips, Todd. I have problems topping the ball on short cut fairways. It gets so bad at times that I would rather be in the rough than on the fairway. It is too late this season to try these hints (18° today), but I hope I remember this next April.

Bob, welcome! Two ideas, make sure the ball is not too far up in your stance. Second, focus on getting all your weight to your lead foot on the finish. Have you read our latest book, The Bad Lie? It lays out the entire program www.badliegolfbook.com/

Great vid as always. My son and I act as if we are sitting in a window sill and on the downswing we try to push our cans through the window. We have used it to address early extension, which I guess standing up is. The head tip also works wonders however Jack must have been left eye dominant as he moves his head back but tilts it opposite of how you tilt yours in the video. I'd gather you are right eye dominant.
