I had my iron tested by a dermatologist and was told it was normal levels and not related to my hair loss. I never saw the lab results myself to know the exact range I fell in. It also never occurred to me to check ferritin levels either until I started watching your videos. I recently had it tested myself at a walk in lab and it came back 27. I have been taking heme iron supplements in hopes this could finally help me. My hair loss has been diffuse throughout my scalp for the past ten years. It doesn’t look like genetic balding to me but that’s how every dermatologist has been treating it and I’ve had no progress at all

It’s great to hear you’re proactive in addressing your hair loss concerns. Ferritin levels, as you discovered, are crucial and often overlooked. With a ferritin level of 27, you might indeed be experiencing iron deficiency, which can significantly contribute to hair loss. It’s vital to target the underlying cause, as William Gaunitz often emphasizes in his approach. While heme iron supplements are a good step, it's also essential to consider other nutritional factors and possible hormonal imbalances. For personalized advice and further evaluation, it would be beneficial to consult a trichology expert who can provide a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. My hair fall started when I was 21 years old. Now I am 24 and I have lost 80% of my hair:( and after visiting the dermataologist he told me I have genetic hairloss and I can only try using mioxidil to prevent the rest of my hair falling off. It‘s been so hard. Especially because I was known for my long thick hair. And seeing it just fall out everyday for the past years has been really hard😔 I have been doing sports regularly since I was 19 (maybe too much) but I never took any supplements. Not sure if this might be an issue too. Thank you for the video

Why is it that when you keep your hair short and trim it occasionally, the hair fall stops?
@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
5 ай бұрын
Keeping your hair short and trimming it occasionally might seem to reduce hair fall, but it doesn't directly affect the rate of hair loss. Shorter hair can reduce the appearance of thinning by providing more volume and making the hair look fuller. Additionally, shorter hair is less prone to tangling and breakage, especially during combing or styling, which can reduce the amount of hair that appears to fall out. Regular trims help in maintaining healthy hair by removing split ends and damaged hair, which can improve overall hair texture and strength. This might give the impression that hair fall has stopped when it's more about managing the health and appearance of your existing hair. Ok, so I am beginning to worry I got scammed. I went to USTI and got certified as an Associate Trichologist, and you are saying that, when using LLLT for treatment of hair loss, fewer laser diodes are more effective than having a machine that has 262 650nm laser diodes? Or does this only apply, specifically, to women under the age of 30?

Thank you Doctor for another amazing video. What are your thoughts about women who no longer menstruate having a serving of liver occasionally (1x per week) to increase ferritin/iron, B12, folate etc? I have heard from some sources this is beneficial, others say organ meats raise DHT levels, which is the last thing a menopausal female needs. Thank you for your time! 👍

Hello Doc thank you so much for a very helpful video. One thing I would like to ask is would Low Level Laser therapy safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
2 күн бұрын
Hi there! 😊 I’m so glad you found the video helpful! When it comes to Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) during pregnancy and breastfeeding, caution is key. While LLLT is generally considered safe for most people and has been used effectively for hair loss, there isn’t enough specific research on its effects during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Because of this lack of conclusive data, most experts recommend avoiding LLLT during these periods, just to be on the safe side. It’s always best to consult with your healthcare provider or a specialist before starting any new treatment during pregnancy or while breastfeeding to ensure it's safe for both you and your baby. ➡️If you have more questions or need personalized advice, feel free to reach out at www.advancedtrichology.com/.

Patch testing has shown me that I have allergies to tocopherol and cobalt dichloride (among others) so I've been advised to stop my oral multivitamin. I don't have optimal ferritin but I am nervous to take iron since it is a cross reactor to my allergies. I think alot of my loss has been from allergic contact dermatits from my allergies to things in hair products, etc. that seem make my scalp react. My derm mentioned a memory t cell reaction as I lost a ton of hair at a salon in August. I now have seb derm and demodex at least in my lashes. She believed all of this has "unmasked" my AGA. I am planning on labwork ASAP. Is serum DHT important, too? Does the DHT blocker cause a shed? I know I have inflammation from all of this but don't know how to stop it. How should I proceed beyond the labs? Help!!!

Doctor , im a female with FPHL , instead of T.Testosterone , i had checked androstenidione levels , which came out normal , is that enough ?
@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
14 күн бұрын
Thanks for your question! While it’s great that your **androstenedione levels** came back normal, it might not give the full picture when dealing with **Female Pattern Hair Loss (FPHL)**. Androstenedione is one of several androgens, but it’s not the only one linked to hair loss. **Testosterone** and **DHT (dihydrotestosterone)** are more directly involved in FPHL because DHT can shrink hair follicles and lead to thinning. It could be helpful to also check your **total testosterone** and **free testosterone** levels, along with **DHT**, to better understand the hormonal factors at play. Some women with normal androstenedione still have elevated DHT or testosterone levels, which can trigger FPHL. ➡️ Reach out to us at www.advancedtrichology.com/ for personalized advice and testing options!

I’m struggling to find a 50-60 diode cap, is there one you recommend? If not could I use a 120 diode cap for 5 minutes 2x a week?
@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
2 ай бұрын
Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) caps, which use laser diodes to stimulate hair growth, come in various configurations, including those with 50-60 diodes and those with higher counts like 120 diodes. Here’s some guidance on using these caps and what to consider: Recommendations: Capillus: Offers caps with various diode counts, including the CapillusUltra which has 82 diodes and is a good mid-range option. iRestore: Known for its effective and budget-friendly devices, their iRestore Professional has 282 diodes but is often used for shorter periods. HairMax: Another reputable brand, their LaserBand 82 has 82 medical-grade lasers and is effective for hair growth. Using a 120 Diode Cap: If you decide to use a 120-diode cap, here are some points to consider: Duration and Frequency: Using a 120-diode cap for 5 minutes, twice a week, might not be sufficient. Most LLLT treatments recommend around 20 minutes per session, 3-4 times a week. However, you can adjust based on the manufacturer's instructions. Intensity: The higher the number of diodes, the more scalp coverage and intensity of the treatment. Ensure you’re following the recommended usage instructions to avoid overexposure. Consistency: Regular use is key for seeing results with LLLT. Make sure to maintain a consistent schedule. Additional Tips: Consult with a Professional: It’s always a good idea to discuss with a dermatologist or trichologist to tailor the treatment to your specific needs. Monitor Progress: Keep track of your hair growth progress and adjust the treatment duration and frequency if needed. Combine with Other Treatments: Using LLLT in combination with other treatments like topical minoxidil or oral supplements can enhance results. ➡️ Reach out to us at www.advancedtrichology.com/

Naaaaa i hate nutritional deficiencies, because i don’t like to eat alot. First i went vegan for 1 year without discipline to cook meals everyday, on top of that ate less cause i have no apetite. Then i changed to vegetarian because i noticed the hairfall. I still eat little food but more protein than the year before. Still falling out because the protein i intake is not enough😢
@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist

I totally get your frustration! 😔 When you don’t feel like eating much, it’s easy to fall into nutritional deficiencies, and unfortunately, hair needs a steady supply of nutrients to stay healthy. Going vegan or vegetarian without proper meal planning can make it tough to get enough protein and essential nutrients for hair growth. Here are a few tips that might help: 🥛 **Focus on high-protein, easy-to-eat options**: If you’re not a big eater, try adding things like protein shakes, Greek yogurt, or cottage cheese to your diet. These are easy to consume and pack a good protein punch! 💊 **Supplements**: Since you're having a hard time eating enough, adding **biotin**, **zinc**, **iron**, and **B12 supplements** could help fill those nutritional gaps and support your hair. 🍲 **Quick meals**: You could batch-cook protein-rich meals like lentil soups, tofu stir-fries, or chickpea stews. They’re easy to store and can be eaten throughout the week. Remember, protein and iron are key for hair health, so even small steps like this can make a big difference over time! 💪 ➡️Reach out to us at www.advancedtrichology.com/

It is most likely nutritional and associated with exactly what I've described in the video and she should be able to get a full recovery once the core underlying reason is addressed. www.advancedtrichology.com/products/extended-nutrition-blood-panel-coming-october-2022

Hey I am suffered from swelling throat after using Minoxidil and dryness in mouth what to do now
@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
4 ай бұрын
Experiencing a swollen throat and dryness in the mouth after using minoxidil can indicate an allergic reaction, which might be serious. It's crucial to stop using minoxidil immediately and consult a healthcare professional or your doctor as soon as possible. Allergic reactions can vary in severity, but symptoms like swelling of the throat require prompt medical attention to ensure safety. For now, avoid using the product again until you have received medical advice. Your healthcare provider will be able to assess your symptoms and determine the best course of action, which may include finding an alternative treatment for hair loss. ➡️Reach out to us at www.advancedtrichology.com/

Hi Doc, why do new baby hairs fall out, thin and about 1 to 2 cm. Its frustrating 😢
@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist
5 ай бұрын
It’s completely normal to feel frustrated when you see new baby hairs falling out, especially if they are thin and short. This often occurs due to the hair cycle being disrupted, which can happen for various reasons including hormonal changes, stress, or even after starting new treatments like minoxidil or undergoing a procedure like a hair transplant. These new, thin hairs-often called "vellus hairs"-can be part of the normal hair regrowth process where the scalp is trying to produce healthier, stronger hairs but the cycle isn’t yet stable. If these hairs are falling out quickly, it may indicate that the scalp environment isn't fully supportive of new hair growth or there may be other underlying issues affecting hair health. The best approach is to ensure you’re supporting your hair growth with a proper diet rich in essential nutrients, minimizing stress, and using targeted hair care products or treatments recommended by health professionals. Consistently monitoring and maintaining your hair care regimen is key to improving the health and longevity of new hair growth. If you continue to see issues, I’d recommend consulting with a trichologist or dermatologist who can provide personalized advice and treatment options based on a thorough examination of your hair and scalp health. Hi. I started losing a lot of my hair about 7 years ago. I used to wash it every day and use high heat every day. Is that why it all fell out? I don’t do that anymore and I treat my hair so much better now but it still hasn’t come back. Any tips for this? I also really love your videos and advice! Thanks for everything!
@WilliamGaunitzTrichologist

It is unlikely that the heat and the hair washing resulted in hair loss. There's probably nutritional components or hormonal components like I mentioned in the video that you are dealing with. If you follow the instructions in the video and get some blood work, the highest probability is, you will begin to see some regrowth.
