Hi Lindy! Thank you for your positive comments! Don’t be afraid to get started….you can always practice on quilt sandwiches! It does get easier!

I've never done straight-line quilting before, but you made it look very easy. I'm going to have to try it sometime. Thanks.

Leslie, I avoided it for a long time. It really is easier than I thought it would be. The more I did it, the better my quilting became. You can always practice on scrap quilt sandwiches first.

Love the instructions. Had forgot you was doing the tips on Friday. I was using my rotary cutter in the kitchen out at the ranch. Listening to 60’s music. Rotary cutter slipped and cut my index finger from joint to finger nail. $1,000 bill to my home owners insurance and 10 stitches. The other day the rotary cutter I use for paper was cutting funny. Found out I had two blades in the cutter. LOL.

Hi Jill! Rotary cutters can cause serious injuries even when they are dull! Hmmm….I never considered we might accidentally put two blades in but I could see how it might happen!

Hello! Another great video! I have had a day where I have been running around doing a bunch of errands and didn't stitch all day so now I'm hand quilting and watching. I hope you have a joyful week ahead. Thank you for posting this video and your creativity.

This has been helpful. I haven't really used my walking foot because I was unsure if how it worked and it's purpose. I noticed your other example that had the pinwheels didn't have the straight line stitching straight across but instead was in various directions. Do you also have a video on how, what and when to stitch in different directions?

Irene! I am so happy to hear from you! Another way I like to use my walking foot is to just quilt 1/4” away from the seams in each block. Both examples I showed in the video had 1/2” quilting going the same direction. The pattern in the fabric may have made it look otherwise.

I do not have another video specifically on Maxine quilting; however, if you check out my pumpkin table runner video and my easy table runner video I show how I machine quilted those projects. Perhaps I can show some additional ideas for machine quilting in upcoming videos. Would that be helpful to you?

@@thesimplequilter7499 Thank you for your help. I was excited to see your videos! I still feel like such a newbie because of my lack of accomplishment. I'm trying to get past that wall. To be sure I am understanding correctly, the table runner with the pinwheels you did do the straight line quilting across the whole piece?

This video is just what I needed to see today. I’m getting ready to straight line parallel quilt a quilt for my husband at 1” apart and I was a little worried about doing it. But you’ve given a lot of great tips in this video so thank you! And quilting every 1/2” sure looks nice, but I’m not sure I have the patience or stamina to do his big quilt that way. 🙂

Walking foot quilting is all I do because it's what I can afford. I use a hera marker for all my marking. I did use the blue tape on a few. You give great ideas. My Bernina does a much straighter line than the Juki it's a lil wiggly. Have you tried the walking foot quilting on your new Juki yet? We both like the same 1/2" look!! Ty ❤️

Yes I tried it on my Juki and I really was enjoying it but right now I am more comfortable machine quilting on my Bernina. Do you machine quilt large quilts? I have only quilted one large quilt…it is really hard on my neck and back!!! Do you have that issue?
@terribishop5313

@@thesimplequilter7499 I've done many up to 65" in width on the Juki. I don't quilt the large at 1/2" but about 2". It's a huge work out and it does hurt for several days but at my age you have to use it or loose it. I have an 82" I've been dreading, a wedding present for my son so I'll have to get it done soon. I've thought to just tie it and be done.

@@thesimplequilter7499 I'm fairly new to quilting and at present I'm not considering doing a large quilt on my home machine even if it has a fairly large throat space. It has just become so much more manageable with QAYG - and even more than one method to boot. The last one I did was in three strips so one does not have to do it block by block. I have the same problem with my neck, so yippee for those innovators. Thanks for your videos - excellent and practical tips.

I am new to.sewing and was needing suggestions. What is the best washable fabric marker/pen/pencil/chalk to use when marking fabric for cutting? Thanks everyone!
@thesimplequilter7499

Paul, I use a white chalk pencil specifically for fabric for my darker fabrics and a blue one or a mechanical pencil for light fabrics. Some say regular pencil lead does not come out but I have never had any difficulty with it. The white and blue chalk pencils can be found large discount stores that sell sewing supplies, Hobby Lobby, or Michaels. I hope that helps! That is what I use!
