OBS is great for casual streaming. Only problem I found was it's not as fluent for changing to different cameras. You need to setup a scene for each camera. Other than that, OBS is a lot better because of the plugin library.

Though this was helpful TWO major details were missed on this video. 1. You have to download the drivers for the Black Magic UltraStudio Mini Recorder from www.blackmagicdesign.com/support 2. After downloading the driver and restarting your computer, BEFORE using the camera as an external camera you need to set the perferences for the Black Magic UltraStudio Mini Recorder in the mac preferences to be set to HDMI in then it will work for the HDMI in. Hopefully this helps someone else.

If you only have HDMI out on your cameras, I don't know of an external device that brings in multiple HDMI (manufacturers that you might contact to see if they make something are: aja, black magic, or Matrox). There are some cards if you want to build your own computer. If your cameras support SDI output then a great piece of hardware I started using recently is: The AJA 4kio www.aja.com/products/io-4k it supports 4 SDI Video inputs OR 3 SDI video and 1 HDMI input and it can be daisy chained (have not tried daisy chaining yet). It requires it's own power supply but it works well for bringing in multiple feeds into a laptop.

Sterling Miller thank u for the reply the only reason I was concidering 70 was because of the AVCHD format compared to the mp4 format I heard it cuts every 15-30 mins but it has more space as u said and WiFi. I find that may give me a problem with the cuts within the editing process. I don’t want it to be noticeable because I will be making long videos 1 hour long max and I’m trying to get a good opinion for a starter I also need the WiFi so I could live stream.. on YT.. I know the 70 is a older model an I’m worried about the WiFi being compatible with my current iOS Devices. which model more compatible with current ios with the WiFi option and which allows for an additional mic? is the r80-82 mp4 format hard to work around or is the AVCHD Format easier for what I want to do when it comes to using editing software which format is best for PC I need the help I’m trying to choose between which is compatible and will give me both good enough picture for my buget compatibility with my devices thank you for the help in advance

@@lady7571 The older models used to cut mp4 every 30 minutes, the really older models would actually stop recording every 30 minutes in mp4. I have a couple of the vixia models and I try to always record in the Mp4 format-- it works easier to edit the quality may be less (I can't tell the difference between the filetypes quality). The Mp4 is a much easier file type to work with. If the cameras do cut the videos into clips it is probably because the files have reached 4 GB, but the camera would have to be in its highest recording setting (if it is less than 35mbs you should be fine). I think the cameras are both comparable--you shouldn't notice a difference in video quality. Both should have 3.5 mm mic plug (size of headphones). If you go to bhphotovideo.com find the two cameras and ask a question you are sure to get a clear answer. I would test it on my cameras but they are locked away as my work is closed for the time being.

Hi, I am trying to use a Canon Vixia HF R700 with the Intensity Shuttle on a Macbook Pro Mid 2012 model, with the latest OSX. Although, the camcorder does not seem to be sending out any video or audio to Wirecast, or any other software that is applicable with the Blackmagicdesign Intensity Shuttle such as Blackmagic Media Express for example. The Intensity Shuttle does function correctly, as I have tested it with both PC, and Mac to determine the USB 3.0 chipset compatibility as some can be slightly different that can cause compatibility issues, but this does not seem to be one of them. I have been able to get the Intensity Shuttle to render audio and video through a Canon EOS 70D, though it doesn't seem to want to work with the camcorder that I have, which seems very similar to the one's you are using for your setup. I am wondering what model's your camcorders are, and if there is a firmware update that may fix the incompatibility issue.

Lastly, in this video when you switch camera shots does the audio switch when you do or does it stay coming from the one camera you have connected to the clean box? I don't know if a 2008 will be able to support software to stream multiple cameras. If your older mac has firewire ports you could find older cameras that connect via firewire and use those. With your 2011 macbook pro you might be able to connect a switcher like an Blackmagic Design ATEM Television Studio Production Switcher or if you want to try connecting with a USB in the description above I have a link to an HDMI to USB converter... But I don't know if the older computers will support it very well.

Download and install the Open Broadcaster software if if works it is free and the best option. I haven't used it enough to know its full limitations. I think the wirecast regular version is fine for most people. I used pro, but now use studio and it does everything that I need. If you want to start with 1 camera you can get a black magic mini recorder to connect to your 2011 mbp and work of up from there. (If you are only using one camera google wirecast play I think it is a cheaper version of wirecast, but only supports 1 camera--and you can move up from there.) Instead of buying a new macbook An alternative solution would be to get an atem television studio HD. I have not used one. But it looks like it runs independent of the computer and may be a great solution without having to buy a new computer It only has XLR audio inputs so if your audio board doesn't have XLR output you might need rca to xlr cable to convert it(they don't cost too much). Here is a link to the manufacturer's website of the ATEM switcher. www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/atemtelevisionstudiohd/techspecs Hope that helps.

@sterlingteaches

Reon Matthee If the church uses a sound mixing board for the speaker, the board should have audio out and if your camera supports audio in (via line or mic plug) you should be able to get the sound directly from the speaker. (you may need a special cable to connect the two. In an auditorium our audio board(mixer) has a red and white circle that say rec out (RCA) and I plug that into the mic (3.5 mm) on my camera and get clear sound. We need to use a Male RCA to Male 3.5mm) cable. It all depends on the audio configuration. If there is a person who runs they sound you may ask them for Audio out, and see what type of cable they give you. if you If your church doesn't use a audio mixing board then you might get a battery powered shotgun microphone. But going through the sound board is your best bet.

Would you use one camera as the "primary" audio source if say you were using a lapel mic since they were all streaming audio/video back via Hdmi>bmd box>thunderbolt cable or could you use another solution obviously everything depends on camera placement and distance but could you run it back to an audio recorder that has a mic output and bring it into the mic input on the computer and still have wirecast recognize it?
@sterlingteaches

+Jeremy Ables For Audio if the venue has a mixer(or if you mix your own audio) I try to get a direct feed I plug it into one camera, then in wirecast I change all the audio inputs to be that camera. Right click on the source and check the camera with the direct line attached to it, and uncheck the other camera audio source. That way the audio doesn't change when you switch cameras. If I don't have a live mixer, I input the camera with the best audio/mic set up. You also can have multiple audio sources selected at the same time. I hope that helps.

Hi! Thank you for this very helpful information. I had a few questions: Does streaming two cameras at a time slow your computer/ the Wirecast Software down, or create any glitches in your Live Stream? Also, do I need any additional gadgets for quality audio? Lastly, am I able to Live Stream for both KZitem and Facebook at the same time? I am trying to set up a live stream for an event that requests live streams for both Facebook and KZitem at the same time. I have two cameras and two BMD mini recorders as mentioned in this video. Any suggestions on how to work this out would be greatly appreciated.
@sterlingteaches
7 жыл бұрын
Each stream will slow down your computer. But it all depends on your computer's set up (processor, ram etc). It also depends on your video quality, higher quality takes requires a better processor. I have a 2014 really strong Macbookpro with 8GB and an i7 processor and I can have 3-4 cameras work (single stream) without issues, though it pushes the processor to it's limits. The best audio quality would come from a an audio mixer, if your venue has a sound board try to plug directly into that. I usually plug in the audio through the camera (this video shows how I do audio kzitem.info/news/bejne/2q5t2Xp4jpmmjKA) You could get an audio mixer that plugs in via USB, but I don't do this so I don't have an exact recommendation. Yes you should be able to stream to both FB and KZitem at the same time in the output settings just make sure to select both youtube and facebook, but you will need a lot of bandwidth. (I have only briefly experimented with dual streams that seems to push my processor and cause hickups) Make sure to connect to the internet via Ethernet not over wif. Search online for streaming bandwidth calculator and it will give you ideas on how much bandwidth you will need. This will also put more strain on your processor. If you have the equipment, I recommend setting it up with private streams ahead of time and try it out before you get to the venue. Hopefully that helps.

The UltraStudio Mini Recorder is not working on my Macbook Pro Retina. I have purchased two of the Mini Recorders and both will not pass through the video. I have removed all the BlackMagic software and preferences and reinstalled fresh. I sent one UltraStudio Mini Recorder back to the distributor and they said it worked fine on their Macbook Pro. I have a H.264 Pro encoder, a ATEM TVS and a Intensity Shuttle for Thunderbolt - they all work fine. The Thunderbolt cable is working perfectly with the Intensity Shuttle. I have adjusted all the settings but no signal will come through. The system recognises the UltraStudio Mini Recorder but will not pass through the signal. I have tried several cameras and other inputs. Please help!!!

It sounds like you have gone through all the steps. If your computer is seeing the device the only thing I can think of is to make sure that the HDMI or SDI input is selected. I don't have access to my equipment right now, so I am going from memory. Make sure that you have the most recent drivers from black magic installed. (www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/ bottom left under latest downloads find desktop video and install it) Turn off your computer Plug everything in Turn on the camera then turn on the computer. (Following this order may not help, but It helped one person I saw with the issue). When everything is turned on don't open video software instead go to system preferences and open the desktop black magic utility. then choose your device and It should say it is connecting via SDI or HDMI. If it doesn't say the connection type that you are using switch it by clicking on three lines(I believe) and choose the correct one. Then open your software and see if it is working...If that doesn't work call black magic. That is my best guess. Good luck with it.

+Robots4Sale For a couple of reasons, 1- I work in a school and buying a high powered Mac is easier than Buying a high Powered PC from a grant. 2. It has 2 thunderbolt connections, a PC laptop with thunderbolt connections costs much more as very few PC's have this on laptops. 3. Black Magic Design the converter boxes that I use work better on Macs. You can do this on a PC but you need to have a different configuration.

Buenos dias amigo.

Suerte.

You can contact a video equipment vendor to see if there is a card that you could put in the Mac Pro or look in the description for a link to a Magewell HDMI to USB, that is an option without thunderbolt.

@sterlingteaches

Page 10 on this guide shows the recommended minimum requirements for using the software that I use, Wirecast. www.telestream.net/pdfs/technical/Wirecast-Reviewers-Guide.pdf It also depends on your video quality and how many inputs. Higher the quality the more it uses your computer's resources, more camera inputs uses more of the computer.

I have only tried using the gopro through blackmagic once a long time ago. You will need a micro hdmi cable to hdmi cable. I used the following cable and it worked www.bestbuy.com/site/insignia-8-hdmi-to-micro-hdmi-cable-black/6392464.p?skuId=6392464 It didn't work plugged into an extender cable, so the limitation is how long the hdmi micro to hdmi cable is. Here are gopro's directions for getting an HDMI out signal: gopro.com/support/articles/best-ways-to-achieve-video-out-signal-via-hdmi I have not found a wireless way to use the go pro as a video feed.

Here is a video that you might try to get it working: kzitem.info/news/bejne/kY2NrYawnnV-e4I if that doesn't help try contacting the manufacturer Blackmagic to make sure everything is set up correctly. I haven't tried it with Hangout on air, but once it is showing up, I imagine that it should work for Hangout on Air, but I don't know for sure.

Matt Fuller I use Canon Video Cameras various models, usually I use XA10s (I have other consumer models, but they are no longer made) they work fine. If I were to buy again and had the budget I would go with XA25. I would recommend them they work for my use. I also would recommend contacting a professional camera shop Like BHPhoto in NY and telling them what you want to use the camera for and ask for their recommendation.

Is there a wireless device to connect to the laptop rather than using HDMI cables? does the stream applies to facebook live?
@sterlingteaches
7 жыл бұрын
There are wireless devices but they are pretty expensive. I've seen The Teradek cube workteradek.com/collections/cube-family. Or you can look up how to use an ipad/iphone to stream to the software, not perfect but works on a budget. The software does stream to facebook, I have not tried it, but there is an option in it to do it. You can also contact a company like B&H Photo and ask them what hardware they sell to make the camera wireless.

@sterlingteaches
7 жыл бұрын
If you just need the video to show up on the projector, many cameras have cables that connect directly to the projector. Check your camera's manual to see how you can get video out. A typical cable that works is 3.5mm to 3 RCA (google that you and may find options). You can record the video on the camera while you send the video signal out to the projector and upload it online later. The other option is to get a USB WEB Camera--these are less expensive, but the video quality is less as well. That might be a way to start then upgrade after a while. I hope that helps. Good luck.

Thanks for this video, I think this will help me live screen my church services. Right now I have my live video feed going into my Mac Pro which I record our live services into Final Cut Pro. My question is, can I live stream using your instruction and record in final cut at the same time? Please provide me with info on how I can get this done. Thanks!
@sterlingteaches
9 жыл бұрын
Ray Sherrer You can't stream and capture to Final Cut Pro simultaneously (as far as I know). The wirecast program does allow for streaming and recording simultaneously (two buttons at the top, one says stream one says record-- you set them both up as outputs, you can set up the "output" to record a video file to your local computer then later import this into Final Cut, this usually bogs down my stream to do both, so what I do is stream, and then download the online copy of the stream for later or record on the cameras for archive. (the online file is lower quality, but the cameras aren't edited. I would experiment with doing both a stream and download before a service and see if you can do both. Wirecast has a good user forum: forum.telestream.net/forum/default.aspx?FTVAR_SUBCAT=38&nocookies=y&subcatname=Wirecast+-+Webcasting. Good luck with it.

@sterlingteaches
8 жыл бұрын
Depending on the budget and what you have for a video switcher there are many things to consider... I use canon cameras, we Have used Canon XA10s (with their optional battery because our graduation is over 2 hours and the regular battery didn't last) but this year upgraded to XA25 and love them! HDMI video signal doesn't travel very far, www.popularmechanics.com/home/how-to/a6751/how-to-extend-your-hdmi-cables/ I tried different things like extenders etc, but didn't work for HDMI over 25', Tricaster makes 100' HDMI cables www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1085185-REG/newtek_fg_000879_r001_tricaster_mini_hdmi_cable.html that have worked well for me*--They work well in sending the signal and Wirecast sees it just fine, but the connectors are garbage and fall off easily (If you get these wrap gaffers tape around the connectors so they stay on) I think they are overpriced too, but the cheap ones I tried didn't carry a signal at all. We had to buy an HDMI Mini to HDMI cable converter (don't buy the cheap kind they don't work) We connected these to canon xa10 hdmi mini out with an adapter www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/981166-STUD/pearstone_hd_aracmaf_male_hdmi_c_m_ra_to.html/mode/edu We were able to upgrade our cameras to XA25 this camera has SDI output which allows you to go much further over easily a couple hundred feet. (if you go this option make sure your switcher has SDI input-these cameras still do HDMI) I bought a spool of coax cable from home depot and made my own cables for our graduation last year and it worked very well- I ran the cable from the top of the bleachers to past where the graduates where sitting so we could see them. We switched using wirecast. It worked very well. If this is out of your budget go with a namebrand camera (sony,Canon) that has HDMI Mini out connect it with the above mentioned connector to HDMI cables or buy HDMI mini to HDMI cables and run it to your switcher (or computer with Tricaster). Sorry for the long answer, I've done graduation a few times and thought I'd share anything that might be helpful.

hi, i have the same camera, the same mini recorder an even the same macbook but when i connect it to my mac the mini recorder is recogniced as "mini monitor" how can i change it?
@sterlingteaches
9 жыл бұрын
Oscar Jesus Espinoza Gómez Black magic makes 2 devices a mini monitor and a mini recorder, they look the same the recorder brings a signal in the monitor sends a signal out. If it is the mini recorder and not a mini monitor then I would guess it is a driver issue. I haven't had that issue before you might try using the company's support forums. forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=726 hope you are able to get it to work.

Why do you need this adapter if there's mini HDMI to direct thunderbolt cables?
@sterlingteaches
6 жыл бұрын
I haven't used those cables, but I image they only allow you to take video out from your computer and play it on an HDMI device, they probably won't allow you to bring video into the computer. The purpose of the converters is to actually change the HDMI video signal into a signal that computer can read, which is why they are so much more expensive.

Great video! I have a question, is there a device to use so you can use 3 cameras with only 1 switcher or is this a trade off for the price we will pay for each individual switcher? I know I want to stream 3 camera shoots and I am just wondering if I should buy all three devices ( 2 mini and the USB Black Magic) or get a different one? What is your recommendation?

Estephania LeBaron The same company, Black Magic makes a bigger device called a atem studio, www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/atemtelevisionstudio but I think you need a separate device for audio. With an adapter you should be able to connect a canon xha1, I have never used that model, but online it says it has Component and SDI output. The mini recorder by black magic in the video would work for the SDI, or the black magic intensity shuttle should work for component out of the camera. You can contact the manufacturer to be sure.
