In this tutorial I show you how I was taught to stretch canvas or linen while I worked as a framer for a number of years. You can also use this technique for stretching a rolled painting onto a frame. Stretching your own canvas or linen to paint on is useful if you are limited for choice of pre-made sizes, or if you want a higher quality product. Pre-stretched canvases are typically only made with 8oz or 10oz canvas, whereas if you bought it off the roll you could use 12oz or 14oz canvas, making the support for your painting better quality. Pre-stretched linen is also typically done with a medium grade linen. Being able to stretch your own canvas or linen simply gives you more options and is a great skill to have as an artist.
Sorry I did not do a voice over for this tutorial, I have lost my voice so can't do it at the moment.
