Two *major* issues: 1. Didn't do your pre-strip NSP (or half NSP as it's known in my detachment) where you don't fire the weapon 2. On what planet is that a functions test? You need to check the safetyfire the weapon, but don't let go of the trigger, cock the weapon and release the trigger and then apply the safety. Edit: fire off the action before apply the safety last

@@BeeBeau Just going to post the procedure for the functions test. May have changed from my day but hopefully it's still accurate. Check safety attempt to fire, turn safety off, pull the cocking handle to the rear, release and forward assist. Hold down the trigger without releasing and pull the cocking handle to the rear and release the cocking handle and forward assist. Slowly depress the trigger and you should hear two faint clicks. Fire off the action, apply safety catch to safe and close the dust cover

Functions test. Step 1: check safety Step 2: fire weapon to make sure on safe it does not fire Step 3: cock the rifle and forward assist Step 4: fire off the action and keep trigger held in Step 5: cock rifle and forward assist. Step 6: fire the action but slowly release trigger and you should hear 2 clicks. Step 7: apply the dust cover

Clearly don't know how to do a functions test, obviously, this was over a year ago so I hope you know what to do now and whatever but the process is this: The weapon is already cocked from being reassembled, set the safety catch to S, pull the trigger, nothing should happen, set safety to F and pull the trigger, weapon should fire off, maintaining pressure on the trigger cock the weapon, when the bolt is fully forward slowly release the trigger, an audible click should be heard, at that point pull the trigger releasing the hammer. On this weapon system, the function test only requires you to cock the rifle once.

im not so sure it would be... its really not that important in an environment like a classroom as the weapon is already known as clear. the only other benefit is that the rifle doesnt need to be cocked before a function test.
