10 years in as a part time lawn guy and trying to get my stripes right still drives me mad. You discover little tips and tricks over time, like 1. Keep your eyes up and ahead, not angles down towards the grass. It keeps you smooth and straight 2. When making your first pass, aim for something in the distance straight ahead, like a tree, shrub, or other landmark. Specifically a landmark that is not in the lawn. 3. As you make passes through the area, avoid unnecessary circle around trees or other obstacles. I’ve found that coming out of that circle can really put a kink in my line. I usually do a half circle around trees on one pass, and keep the line straight on the next pass. Clean up with trimmer. The biggest problem I have is making sure I keep my wheels in the right spot. I’m convinced I’ll never get the hang of it.

No buddy it’s not false either. It comes down to several factors what type of grass is in the yard. The yard you mowed had beautiful grass. @@americandream_89 it comes down to the damn mower how good of a grass your mowing and that’s a bottom line I don’t give a damn what you say. The grass is the better bend and strip you’ll get there’s a lot of factors you can’t bullshit me. then if you cut every week a different direction you’ll get better patterns, but there are some commercial mowers that lay stripes better than others. Use more drive on your downhill arm when going across hills to keep it from drifting downward and you'll get rid of those bends at the base of the hill and across the face. Pro lawn care foreman here, the key is high lift blades. Your deck can be packed full as hell, doesn't matter for the stripe. You should definitely clean your deck, but stripes come from laying the grass down. High lift blades pull the grass up as far as possible and then your deck will push the grass over as you run over it, swear to god I just need to start a lawn care channel.

@@americandream_89 I clean my decks out each time I change my blades (roughly every 3-4 weeks) and never have triple cuts. if you're seeing triple cuts you need to sharpen your blades. Also I'd like to add, no one should be cutting grass that's so wet you have to worry about it staying in your deck. Let the yard dry, but I understand for people who are in a tight schedule. I live in a rural area of Tennessee and I wouldn’t be able to see stripes on my yard if I painted them on there with a brush. More weeds than anything.

As a business owner myself I’d want every yard to pop so it caught attention. He could possibly charge $2-5 more per yard with the intent to get more customers. The $2-5 per yard would pay for 2-5min extra for maintenance on deck or what’s needed.
