Thank you. Your explanations are very clear and simple enough for even me to understand.

Thank you. this video removed all my doubts but i have one more thing to ask that do you harvest the boxes where queen bee is there?. keep up the work💓💓

That's a great question. NO. I don't harvest frames of honey in the same box(es) where the queen is living b/c this would mean the frames have larvae which would be killed.

Would you get pollen stored in the top instead of just nectar and would drones get in and eat it?

Great question . . . Pollen is BABY FOOD! So . . . The workers will default to storing it nearest to the eggs/larvae which the Queen is producing. So . . . the pollen should show up near where the Queen is busy. This should mean that nectar is primarily what you get on the other side of the Queen Excluder.

@@SustainableStace ok, another problem that workers might come by…going through the queen excluder to take pollen stores into the brood nest would be detrimental surely? The pollen would probably get knocked off the baskets when passing through the bee space. It’s also another exit to guard, especially in a long dearth

Im new to beekeeping. I added a a honey super and the queen excluder.. its been a few weeks.. the bees insist on building comb beetwen the queen excluder and the frames. Is this normal.. the bees dont seem interested in the honey super

Welcome to the club :) Yes, it's very common for them to build wax onto the excluder. Bees love to plug up and block new real estate. I use a wire brush and rub the wax off. And YES they like to be near the queen and so they are often reluctant to head into the super where WE beekeepers are hoping to see the honey stored. Often - the most helpful addition is an entry notch into the front edge of the excluder (which becomes a second access point into the hive) This makes it much easier for them to bring honey straight into the super without entering on the bottom and climbing thru the hive. As their population climbs this will help them build stores more efficiently.
