I don't understand the aim, purpose or reason for this video. I see the title but your commentary seems to be that of a guide which leads me to believe this to be parody/satire and just a humorous video. That being the case because you (or the character you're pretending to be) are terrible at this game, you don't understand the mechanics of it, you couldn't even figure out why your powerplant blows up. I'm trying to ascertain, and try to follow me here, what video you intended and were trying to make, the statement that video makes _(keep in mind that what a video literally conveys and the statement the video is making can be different or even totally opposite. For instance, you could create a satirical video poking fun at something by taking up the position that you're ridiculing in a totally serious manner.)_ , and also possibly the way that you think this video is understood by viewers. I noticed that you said _(paraphrasing slightly)_ "If this weren't just a demonstration I would be demolishing all this so that I could fix my spacing while not having any fun at all which is the point" Please correct me if I'm wrong _(that being only if you ever see this)_ but this, and the video's title, lead me to believe _(also for the sake of *brevity*, I'm not going to list multiple possible positions that would lead to the creation of this video, only what I speculate is true)_ that these are the premises you started with and what I think your thoughts are concerning this video and SimCity 2000: -That the point or goal of the game is to get incredibly wealthy, though that's obviously a strawman and too simplistic. What I mean is that without giving any regard to anything else like years or difficulty settings or even the quality of life for the residents of your SimCity, so long as you can make yourself obscenely rich, along with a huge population that you've done well. -It seems like you think, partly based on what I quoted, that you think that while there are fun elements to this game, such as city building in a personal or ascetically pleasing way, the main goal of the game is best accomplished with a perfect, fun-sucking grid and this system where you accomplish nothing spectacular or significant but feel as though you've beaten the game. -To me, it seems like this video is a criticism of this game for being made _(ostensibly the way you see it, not me)_ with its goal being what I've already described above. I've gone on long enough and I haven't written half of the points I had intended to, that being a result of the length of this comment. I left to do other things, and when I came back I realized I was halfway through a criticism that I had already forgotten about. That being the case I'll just state my conclusion. This game is excellent, it's totally valid and without hyperbole to call this game a stunning and amazing accomplishment. It was released a year after I was born making it 24 or 25 years old! You absolutely missed the point of the game, beyond everything it is through solely the perspective of a gamer, it is also a simulation - It's in the name! Is it really an accomplishment to let your citizens wallow in despair for 500 years while you're slumlording it up afk? You went to the map editor and selected the easiest possible map, disabled everything, went hundreds of years into the future in order to say I win this game is stupid. Don't get me wrong, I do realize that what I just described could be interpreted as 'How to suck all the fun out of Sim City2000' and as I said above, correct me if I'm wrong. I've been happy to write this either way. The air of superiority and the pretense of creating a guide to 'win' the game while simultaneously showcasing your _(or potentially your 'character's')_ abysmal grasp of this game is funny, but if I've speculated correctly then what's actually happening is a hilarious failure to grasp SimCity 2000, and that being exhibited for all to see here. Edits to fix formating

Water pumps that are not near open water have about 25% (or less) production compared to one that is next to water. Also in SC2000, water seems to be almost meaningless, you can easily grow a city of 100,000 inhabitants and not have a single pump. If you go for the "battery" style city, a much better layout is 7 wide blocks alternating with 6 wide blocks - place RCI in the 7 wide, with a row of small parks in the middle and everything else in the 6 wide block. My favorite layout, which I developed over many years - I was in highschool when this game came out, is 9x9 blocks - allows you to put a big park in the middle surrounded by RCI that can develop 3x3 buildings. Or trees, or water and pumps and trees. No, you don't have to monitor their whining, you have to know when to give them what. They require certain services at certain pop levels. For example, when they want police, you can plop one down but drop the funding to 5%, they only seem to care if the building exists, not that it does anything. Same with firefighter hospital and school.

Should space your roads six apart, not four, for maximum space utilization. I totally agree with C buffer between R and I.

I believe the power plants used to blow up if they had no water supply. Kinda makes sense to me as a kid power needs cooling, but maybe it's random and I was totally wrong. I remember this too, Once you get it dialed in it takes no time whatsoever to have the entire map covered, I used to have most it done in like 15 mins... incidentally the length of the video 😂

6x6 grid, 6 small parks per block, land value booms ... you'll be making cash instantly! use the terrain editor to give yourself two layers of "mountain" along one edge of the map, fill those with hydro plants as other people said... leave a little extra water for marinas and a seaport or two.. keep the rail simple but put lots of subways around, the small stations are really convenient. To this day I still haven't created a perfect layout I'm happy with, finding the best way to arrange the rail, highways, police, airport etc is real tough.. i hate the fact you eventually have to demolish everything to build the arco's as they don't fit nicely on the 6x6 grid, i usually try put my parks/subway stations etc around the edge keeping the middle 4x4 clear... i dont know why but i just cant get into the sequels following this one, i wish i could .. maybe ill try again this year.

Think bigger: 9x9 blocks. With a big park in middle they can grow any 3x3 RCI building. They can easily fit all utilities in 1 block, even colleges, and they can fir 4 arcos as well, with a bunch of parks/trees in between. For me, anything smaller looks very cramped.

You can put a substation in the center of a 9x9 tile area, but often the 8 tiles surrounding it won't all develop. Just turn them into parks or pumps or something. You can put police, fire stations, or hospitals in the center of 9x9 tile areas, but they won't have road access (which really only matters in SimCopter, as they won't be able to dispatch vehicles). Schools, museums and libraries (surrounded by a bit of park) go well in the center also. Another thing I like doing is using the elevation tool to raise a 3x3 area -- one flat top surrounded by slopes. Watertool the slopes, put a pump at the top of the hill, then surround it with hydroelectric power plants. That single pump is touching 8 tiles of water, so a dozen or so like that will water the whole map, and you're getting pollution-free electricity that doesn't require you to rebuild powerplants every 50 years (make sure you run the pipes _before_ you build the dams, or they'll look funny when you lay them, but they'll function either way). Sure, it's a bit of a hack, but it works.

I agree with you go by space, so a 6 wide grid of I C then R outward, but for powerplants I shaved a mountain side into a hydroelectric power supply, they don't blow up after 50 years and generate zero pollution, also your only source of water shouldn't be so far away, that's wasted water in the pipes just to get to town ( I watched 5 mins )

@Dottlet1
4 жыл бұрын
Yeah. The top speed of African Swallow runs completely uncapped, as fast as the CPU can handle it. It's pretty crazy. That speed wasn't actually in the original version/s of the game. Only in the updated version/s, including the Win95 version and Mac v1.1 at least. That's really the only issue it has running on modern machines that can't be fixed easily with compatibility modes and/or files. If you want to play actively rather than rushing through the years. But you can at least _hold_ Ctrl+P to pause, or 1-3 to set to a lower speed, while pressing Okay on the yearly Budget window with Auto-Budget off.

I think this is the Windows 95 version, which surprisingly still works. You need a custom installer, and it crashes on save/load unless you patch it, but other than that it's about the same as it was 20 years ago.

I'd just make a small but profitable city in SimCity classic, run it all night at full speed with disasters disabled, and I'd have a couple billion in the bank the next morning. Then I'd convert it to SC2000 and have nuclear powerplants (at least the ones I'd already built) and two billion dollars starting in 1900.
