Why are so many people confused about the deductible. The deductible is the portion of the claim that the insured is responsible for. The insured doesn't pay it per se, it comes off the top of the settlement of the claim. The insured does not write a separate check to the insurance company for the deductible amount.

It is helpful to access this information about what happened after filing a claim. We are tenants and first-time claimants. This is the first residence for which we've needed to obtain renter's insurance. This material has been really helpful in preparing us for what is ahead, despite the fact that we're in Canada. The floodwaters also caused damage to our buildings. Once more, I appreciate this video so much.

I’ve been through 2 hurricanes both did damage to my roof! My house was listed for sale 4 months prior to hurricane Michael and also Hurricane Sally a couple of years later. I was given the runaround by PHH Mortgage Services, and wound up paying to have part of my roof repaired, and I’ve gone through the same scenario with PHH again with Hurricane Sally. There’s more I won’t go into here! I live in Panama City Beach, and would love to talk to you about seeing what can be done about it.

Oddly, for a roofing contractor, the questions were generally not about roofing, but on the legal process. There are many types and styles of roofs, and one would think roofers would be more interested in how to prove the need for replacement vs repairs on various types of roofs. e.G. 3 tab, spanish tile, metal, solar incorporated into roof, etc.

Any silver bullet to inflict a resolution with against those insurance companies that abuse the system and therefore expose home owners to the elements that they are supposed to be protected from in the first place?. Is it natural for the legal system to accept a company not to come to an agreement with the owner for years and years? Here we are in Florida paying very high premiums for decades and then one company decides to stand against an owner for the mere reason to stretch the payment that the owner is entitled to. Shameful on one hand and disgraceful on the other. These fights makes all to be more expensive for everyone because the insurance companies dont’t loose. The legal system needs to be changed somehow

Great question! I do NOT charge the insured to represent them in an insurance claim dispute. There is a law in Florida that says if you sue your insurance company and you win, the company pays your attorneys’ fees. When I sue an insurance company for a Florida insured, I charge the company for my fees. My clients never come out of pocket and never owe me fees. The laws may be a bit different in other states. I do not charge for policy review. If you have a question about a Florida property insurance claim or policy, you can email me at ba@premproplaw.com.

@@tonyowens6802 this is possible through Proposal for Settlement/ Offer of Judgment. But the homeowner would have to lose at trial or MSJ, and insurance companies don’t often go to trial on these cases because of the risk.

Just come across this today and have subscribed. I'm having problems with my insurance company who are repudiating the claim on the ground of a water ring. We had a shower leak in 2018 which was properly fixed by Feb that year. Last year Nov 2021 there was a leak from the same shower but from under the tray (pipe leaking) whereas before it was in the wall. They're saying previous leak wasn't resolved properly but that was 3 and a half years ago. Also they are saying leak was in 2019 but all my records show early 2018. The damage is quite extensive now and will cost ten's of thousands. I don't know what to do, can anyone help please.

Are you saying that some contractors "promise" the homeowner to NOT charge them for the deductible??? 🧐It does sound crazy, had no idea that was a "thing". How can a reliable, professional contractor afford to essentially "not be paid" for their work? Where is the catch? I imagine they will "promise first" and "do a shitty job later". 🙄
