I've been curious about sun printing so am glad to see your video. Think I'll try it now! I've enjoyed all your videos on dyeing, please keep experimenting and sharing with us.

@@OnyxArtStudios love your result, but was expecting teal. Can this be done on Silk?

Great results. I've tried the sun dyes that turn out dark blue with a photo negative once and painted fabrics with Seta color paints then placed them in the sun with foliage on them. That was super easy and came out so beautiful.

Hi! I love love your videos. Can you please do a tutorial on how to cyanotype with tie dye

Thanks! Cyanotype is a light sensitive mixture and that's what makes it unique. I don't think it would work with tie dye. Have you tried it?

Excellent video, as always! You're the best! I was just wondering if you thickened the dye-- it looks translucent as if thickened with carrageenan. I watched Jacquard videos, but their thickener looks more opaque. They were "nice enough" to warn me that each of their Solarfast dyes behaves differently, but your results using their Teal look way better than what I got using their Avocado. Final result is a quirky yellow, not even close to the advertised color, at least on cotton t shirts. It would be fantastic if multicolor results were consistent, because these could be a cotton alternative to dye sublimation... no need for polyester. 🤔

thanks so much! I didn't thicken the solar fast at all- that's how it was straight out of the bottle. I haven't tried other colors but would love to (esp the blue) their cyanotype washes out of cotton but this one is more color fast. Interesting to hear about the avocado color. I think that the strength of the sun also really makes a difference.

Thanks Catherine. Yes, we had two straight months of 100+ degree intense sun in Louisiana! Thank God for air conditioning! I went ahead and mixed other Solarfast colors, adding some thickener and it worked super well on cotton t shirts.🙂

How did you stop the paint from staining the shirt while washing it ?

The yellow went all over the shirt and covered the shirt

How many washes do you think it could take before it fades? Thanks

Im new to cyanotypes but something I suggested is try to print without the glass, when the shirt is trapped in the glass with the humidity the ink on the shirt condensates and adds moisture to the print ultimately making a not as sharp print because the edges bleed. Just a suggestion, great job though ☺️✌🏽

interesting idea, if the weather is not windy this would be good to try. Thanks!
