Question: Say you've shot in (whatever, but let's say) 4k, but during editing, you zoom in on the image to have a close-up. Is there any value to using superscaling in that situation?
@VariTimo
4 жыл бұрын
No, because Resolve is already up scaling this to match the timeline resolution. Also please watch this demo (I wasn’t involved in it) to better understand resolution: yedlin.net/DisplayPrepDemo/index.html
@RobEllisCinematographer
4 жыл бұрын
I guess you could, as you'd be super scaling 4K to 8K (or above), but if you're only outputting the final render to 4K it might not make a huge amount of difference. A more common scenario would be if you zoom and crop into a 1080p clip in a 4K timeline and then render out ot 4K.
@RobEllisCinematographer
4 жыл бұрын
Resolve does upscale to match the timeline resolution, but the super scale will help to improve the detail on the up scaled shot so when you do things like cropping in, you have a bit more detail to work with, or when you render out to a higher resolution, you're in a better position to sharpen that added detail to match other shots natively shot in that higher resolution (or just a general boost in resolution/detail)!

A few questions: 1. What do you mean by 'upscaled to 4k' when you compare that to superscaled? What kind of upscaling? How is this done? 2. Is that really just superscaled grain with the girl on the phone? It looks super noisy on her face...Is this just what very sharp grain looks like (it seems to move around, like noise...) or is it noise created by upscaling film-grainy footage? 3. @RobEllisCinematographer
4 жыл бұрын
Hey Sam, so I simplified it a little in the video by only mentioning the pixel height (1080p, 2160p, 3240p, 4320p). So in the case of 1080p being super scaled 2x, the 2x scaling is applied to both the width and height of the pixels, which does mean 4x the pixels in total. So 2x 1920 x 1080 becomes 3840 x 2160, or 4K. Hope that makes sense!
