Greg, thanks so much for this video, the example you showed with the beam that opens up a little bit of storage beneath the stairs is exactly what I was looking for. +1 like from me!

Most building codes refer to a 36 inch wide, 10 inch minimum depth for step and no more than 7.75 inches for risers in residential construction, but you should check with local building and safety departments in your area for exact dimensions.

I'm interested in "stacking" two of these staircases one over the other (meaning, half landing stairs from basement to main directly under half landing stairs from main to 2nd floor). Is that at all possible, or will the upper half of the stairs always need a supporting wall built under it to support the stringer?

Here's a link to our books, but I'm not exactly sure which book you will need. Email me a picture of the stairs your building if you can't find the correct book.

my stairs are shaped like this with the highest side being a closet door. My question is i'm thinking of making a small secret room under the stairs. Anyone know if its as simple as just breaking the wall down? I don't know much about load bearing stuff so I would have to research it up but is it doable to make a room? (thinking of using the closet to extend the room into the shorter area)

What is the proper name of a staircase like this?

I call them "bracket stairs", because they use angled hardware (metal brackets) to connect treads to un notched stringers.

How is the back side of the landing attached to the wall studs? Getting ready to build a set of U shaped stairs with a landing. I was going to frame the landing w/ 2x8's and double up the front edge like you showed but wasn't sure about the attachment at the back.

I use 16d nails to fasten rim joist to wall studs. 3 nails for 2x6 and 4 nails for 2x10.
