I sooo love your videos, binge watching them tonight. You are such a fun person to listen to..wise beyond your years. Your patients are very lucky to have you as a nurse😊These were excellent reminder points, thank you!

Could make a video showing a typical hospice RN assessment?

Thank you for this video!! I'm in orientation now, but it's the 3rd day, and I feel overwhelmed by the info. This video is helpful

So glad it helped!! Orientation is always overwhelming I think. For me it was finally getting one on one time with my preceptor tin the field that made sense! Also, reading other nurses notes helped a lot in regards to assessment and learning to do a good narrative.

@@HospiceNurseAllie Thank you!! Do you know of any resources that help with dosage calculations for hospice?

Nurse Allie, I’m loving your videos. I just started Hospice after years of Home Health Infusion Therapy. I would love if you could do a video (or several!) on wound care.

I had to quit a couple of months ago as a hospice case manager because I was having 25 patients and working 60 hours a week. 24hr call once a week. Makes me so sad. I miss it.

Which is way too much! They know we have huge hearts and are empathetic so some managers try to take advantage of that. Also, have you considered other hospice nurse positions? Like weekend Baylor, per diem, or other non-case managing positions? That’s what works best for me as I prefer hourly pay over salaries any day 😊

Hi! I currently work as hospice nurse and I love it! The one thing that concerns me is if I am getting paid fairly. I get paid my set RN pay for the hours I work, but only get paid $20 for being on call every day. Just want to find out if you think that’s fair for being on call 24 hours a day? Thank you in advance.

Okay so with my on call experience we get paid hourly, a little over $3 an hour, just to be oncall plus our usual pay if we get called out. So for 24h $20 for an entire 24h does seem low.

What is an “average” caseload per day? I know it varies but just looking for a fair estimate of what’s normal.
@HospiceNurseAllie

So per day for weekday staff is usually up to 4-5 patients. I work weekends- usually 12 hours- so my day definitely varies 😆

@@HospiceNurseAllie I work HH travel contracts, but I just started a HHH local because I need to stay close for a while. I do not take cal, no weekends and no night visits. I have not done hospice in many years, but it is similar to home health, different goals. I usually can see 5 patients if subsequent visits, and 2 admits maybe one extra visit in eight hours. Right now, I have to be in daily meetings almost two hours, which really makes my visit time only six hours. So I may see three, maybe four patients, depending on driving distance. As long I have no complains and issues because I work per hour, and they are taking those two hours every day for me to attend meetings, everything is well.
