When I watched your video (about breathing), I couldn't wait to go swimming early in the morning to apply your teaching, technique, and advice on breathing while swimming. Instead of continuously blowing up, I held my breath and exhaled almost altogether just before the inhale. What a big difference it had already made. And such a comfort it gave me, I can't tell! I feel much more controlled and aware of my actions and why! I really thank you for the way you teach and the effort you make to see things from the learner's perspective. People who become professionals forget the beginner's mood.

It is unfortunate that much of the "swim lesson" community is younger "entry level" jobs - they do not have context as to the importance of their role when it comes to adults. So happy I found you on KZitem!! I will try this way! I normally take a breath on every third stroke because I start out stroking with my right arm which is my dominant side but I see I should start with my left finishing the fourth stroke, while taking a breath, with my right arm! 👍🏽
@caribeswim
20 күн бұрын
Welcome to the channel and thank you for the comment - my best advice is not to get too worried about this - always breathe to your dominant side, when we first push off a wall that may be 3 strokes instead of 4 depending on which arm we start with BUT that will normalize after the first cycle. --- More importantly, stay relaxed, get enough air, have fun! Keep me posted on your progress! Coach Jeff

Thanks to you Am so happy today, i tried just like in the video today. i successfully was able to get a breathe for the very first time on every 4th stroke.... i still need to work on slowing down the stroke speed... I think i panic underwater and pull too fast..is there a way to slow myself down.?

Did I miss something? At approximately 4:30 of the video breathing on the 4th cycle I counted 3 strokes. Is the first stroke assumed when your face went in the water?
@caribeswim
29 күн бұрын
Thanks for your comment - on the first cycle of either pushing off a wall or in this case pulling my arms while standing I took my first pull with my right arm... I should have started with my left arm...this resulted in my breath [I always breathe to my right side] being on the 3rd stroke. After this full repetition however, it will always be on the 4th stroke. --- I hope this helps and apologies for confusion! Coach Jeff

Great video, breathing is my Achilles heel and yet to still master this… I have tried breathing every two, every three … also just when I feel I need to, all without finding my comfort / rhythm. You suggest every four but in some of the examples you showed it looked like you took the breath on the third stroke, but then in the next cycle it was on the fourth?
@caribeswim
Ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment and I am happy to help. Inside of the video, I am breathing every 4... if any scenes are less it may just be due to cuts or pool length issues. MOST of the time, when you are struggling with how to breath, it is actually an earlier step that needs addressing. It normally is a relaxation issue more than a technique issue. --- I would encourage you to join our community here; www.skool.com/caribeswim/about I can help you much more closely here. Keep practicing - you CAN do this! Coach Jeff

Hello - thanks for the comment - that is only on the 1st cycle as I started with my opposite arm. As you are breathing, the cycle will be every 4, just not on your 1st, depending on what arm you start with! --- Hope this helps and did not confuse, Coach Jeff

Thank you for the comment - much of this is a result of 3 things: 1. Relaxation 2. Buoyancy created by air in lungs 3. Head position looking straight down and spine in alignment. ---- Many videos will suggest you flex your core - this is more advanced. Begin by relaxing as much as possible > you may need to take a few steps back and build into the full process. Check out our First 3 episodes of "Learn to Swim With Me" For more help!

Learning to breathe bilaterally is important for long distance open water. Learning to breathe only on the dominant side will make it difficult to later learn bilateral. Always teach bilateral breathing.

Thank you for your comment! While I agree that for swimmers who are practicing open water ocean swimming it may be beneficial, for introductory freestyle in a pool it is not.
