Back when I took my golf lessons many years ago (1984) I could never hit a draw I was always swinging over the top with a big slice. What I was taught to use was 12x12x12 cardboard box set 1 foot out and 6 inches left of the target line this was called swinging 7 to 1. If I swung over the top I would hit the box. The reason we used cardboard was not to injure your left wrist or damage the club. My first time out to the course after my winter lessons my first shot was a draw and I was amazed. Now being age 71 I still swing 7 to 1 and I can still draw my woods and irons. Great to see it's still used in lesson today thanks Clay.

Clay, this is class and simple to remember. Taking lessons and swing has improved so much (don’t fat/thin anymore) still can’t work out weight balance thing. Well explained and I feel I will be able to achieve this now. ‘Lift up toe on left foot during takeaway/do your wee “bump dance” when club about horizontal. Cheers 👍

This video is fantastic. I recently set up a very basic golf simulator room. I'm getting quite a bit of bounce back even with unhooking a number of the bungie ties. Do you have anything behind your screen that is helping limit ball bounce back? Thank you for your videos. They are so good you videos are the only ones I watch. I started to golf at 24, but then work, kids, etc. has limited my play. Just getting the point of being able to try and improve at 53 years old.

I tried it again with shallowing the club head. All my goodness! What a difference, I have new club grips and now a new swing. This helps me with all my clubs. Yes the re-centering is still important and with that I was hitting more accorrectly and further. Thanks for the great tip.

When I hit well, it approximates what you ascribe to do here. I'm relaxed...it's so easy. BUT, then I derail and lose that "feeling". That's when I start to over-think/analyze/adjust. You can only imagine how that goes! I struggle to re-establish that sequence/tempo. ???

Tip number extra: if you can, use real turf. So you can see if you hit the ball first, then the turf. Your divot can tell you a lot about the way your clubhead approached the ball

Wishing I could hit like when Clay does it wrong… 😉 Seriously though, these suggestions really helped me out at the driving range yesterday.
I dig into the ground so much when I swing my irons. I usually have a good strike but after that I dig into the ground far enough that my golf partners usually make comments. Sometimes it affects my shot, sometimes it doesn't. Could you explain why this happens or make a video on reasons and corrections exercises?

@termides
2 жыл бұрын
I like that drill but then when I tried to do a full swing I still can't get over on my left side. I am 80 I think I've gotten too old to play and I can't give it up. It's very depressing when you know how to do it and can't execute it.
@termides
2 жыл бұрын
So disappointed. I went to the driving range this morning and I still can't move over to my left side. I like the tilt back drill for short shots but when I do a full shot I can't go to the left. It's so sad when you know what you're supposed to do and you can't do it. I finish with the club low and around my body. When I was young I had a swing like Tom Watson or Johnny Miller or even Jack much more upright and vertical. Those days are long gone and now I am pissed.

Doesn't that take you off the center of the ball moving right weight to the right? I thought you had to stay over the ball.
@jonathancooper5672
2 жыл бұрын
Think the move down is called re-centering, which gets your center covering the ball again. Shifting weight (or pressure) without a sway.
