I think that causes more psychological disorders for your budgy than a mirror. O_O I don't know may be Budgies in Cuba are stronger than those in the US. One of my uncles had a budgy he had trained to pick food from his lips, that bird lived over 13 years without any complications. O_O May be the many years of being exposed to human saliva and germs made that bird built up a powerful immune system.

About a year or two ago my dad bought a budgie on a whim and we knew nothing about them. Despite researching at home when we brought him in we were confused and did just about every wrong thing! It turned out he was also sick when my dad bought him but none of us knew, so we weren't able to help him recover. He did within a couple of weeks and we became very sad as we had grown attached to him. After he died we found more information on how to take care of budgies and our hearts broke more as we realized that nothing we did helped him but made things worse. Since then I have been begging my parents to let me buy two budgies so that they are never lonely and I've promised I would take proper care of them. I'm a graduating senior, however I'm going local for college so I would be able to take care of them at home, so I really am trying to prepare to take care of these beautiful little birds. I've been researching and noting the do's and do-not's for a while now and my parents have finally agreed that if I can prep our home for two budgies I can buy and take care of them on my own. In about 6-8 months I plan on being ready for them. This video has really helped me a lot, so thank you.

You should definitely get two! Budgies will be so much happier in pairs, and no, it won't make them antisocial to you. I recommend you get one first, then after you and the bird are comfortable around each other you get a second one. While the second one is in quarantine (it should last around a month) out bind with that one. After quarantine you introduce them to each other and they'll both still love you:)

Birds aren’t easy pets at ALL, vet cost are high, toys need to be replaced every month or so. A good diet (pellets and veggie chop) with fruit once or twice a week. It IS costly. You also need to take your bird out for hours a day, unless they are in an aviary. Research also never stops, so go look at other websites and I suggest going to bird shelters. A discord can also help (Birbcord) it has breeders, avian vet techs, and other bird lovers!

@@the._.birdss_6181 Where you buy the bird can make a big difference on taming them. Generally I would NEVER buy from any pet store unless you’ve talked in detail about the birds that they have there. Hand fed birds from a breeder can be much easier to tame and then bond with. You do need a big cage, and I say an outdoor playground is something to consider to make the bird happy when out, I personally have a set of outside toys along with my birds playground.
@Guineapig-yo6fi

So yeah, you need a lot of time, some birds can take longer times than others to tame. Just make sure to never push the birds boundaries, and move slowly if they need you to.

Consider getting another one too! Budgies will be much happier in pairs, it's usually recommended that they aren't alone. Also, although this is a great video, I would do much more in depth research. You need to know their health, what to look for in certain items you buy, what household items are safe and what aren't, their behaviour etc, these are all very important to know before getting any bird. I wouldn't just go off of one video :)

I own a female parakeet named pepper for about a month!! Here is how I care for her: Feed. I give her her bird seed daily and fresh water too daily. Cage cleaning. There's is a small tray under her wired floor so I drag the tray out and scrub it with mild soap and warm water and put the tray back. Bath. I basically put a bowl of warm water outside her cage and she like splashes in it, flies away, comes back takes a sip and than splashes. Treats. Now when I want to take pepper out of her cage I hold some fruit like bannana outside of her cage and she flies sits on my finger and eats it. Some times it veggies. The taming process. This was the hardest part. First 5 days I would read a book to her to get used to my voice. After this as slow us snail I gently put my hand in the cage while wearing gloves so she gets comfy with my hand. I did this for 15 mins for 5 days. After this I picked some fruit and put my hand in the cage and feed her with hand. But she was kind of scared at first but she still ate I did this while talking for 5 days. Now I open the door and put some food in my hand and she slowly came up to my hand and ate it! I was crying happy tears! She ate food and flew back. I did this for another 5 dayz. Now the last process is I put my finger in the cage ( but before I lock my room and windows ) and slowly touch her feet and she sits on my finger and I take her out and pet her! AND AT LAST I WAS CRYING AND MY MOM WAS PRETTY IMPRESSED AND I LOVED PEPPER AND MY HARD WORK FINALLY PAID OFF!!!!!! it took me more than a month to tame her. Always remember whenever taming a budgie have patience and hope and you will achieve what you want! Hope this helped!!!!!🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦

I'm planning on getting my very first budgie sometime soon, but I am worried about one thing. The wings. I've heard that many people clip their budgies wings, and some people don't. My house has high ceilings, and a lot of things that are like 10ft off the ground that a budgie could sit on. The problem is that I know it's good to let them fly, but I'm worried about it getting out of reach where I cannot see him/her, and so that's why I was thinking of clipping wings. Any help??

Coconut, although this is a late reply, I would clip the wings (since they do grow back) and after it gets used to that, you can train it before it can fly around out of control.

Clipping wings is dependent on your opinion on safety. If you plan to get younger budgies, I’d say don’t clip their wings. When I first got my 2 budgies, they were young, they constantly fell due to clipping their wings.

And try to talk gently and once caught try to leave yr bird in cage. Do u have a radio near cage or TV? Just talk quietly n gently and NEVER make loud sudden noises as buddies die very quickly. Hope this helps good luck. PLS let me know watt happens.

Ok I've got a few questions ;) Best Food type which is better Girl/boy min Cage size in inches wide and tall good toys to test Average cost a bird average cost overall to own a Budgie
@laurenkelly30
7 жыл бұрын
Everyone has different opinions on their favourite foods for their birds. The best pellet brands seem to be Roudybush, Zupreem and Harrisons. Budgies require seeds, but I've never really seen people debate over best seed brand since they are usually seen as unhealthy as part of a staple diet in the bird world. Just try not get any with sunflower seeds, additives, sugars or bad stuff. It really doesn't matter at all what sex the bird is. Female birds sometimes can have an egg laying problem, especially cockaiels, so that's something to watch out for. Males also are usually louder. But, it all depends on the individual bird. For a budgie the minimum cage size is 24L" x 18"W x 18"H, but since budgies should be in pairs, the minimum for 2 is always different, some say 30 x 30, some say 20 x 20. I would say the minimum for two is 24L" x 20W" x 30H". I would always go bigger than the minimum though if you can, budgies are active little parrots. Good toys are puzzle toys that get their brains moving, foraging toys, shredding toys, DIY toys and bells. Don't get any mirrors, by the way. By average cost, do you mean yearly, monthly, weekly etc? When you are first buying all the supplies, you should expect to pay around €200, and that's if you can get a cheap cage (remember to go for better quality cages rather than cheap ones) I've seen people spend a good few hundred, sometimes thousands, when they start off getting birds. Average cost after the start depends. Monthly it'll be about €40 at the most. Vet check ups (should be done at least once a year) where I live cost no more than €30 (it depends where you live though) and if your budgie gets sick you could be looking at hundreds for vet bills. But everything really depends where you live. Hope this helped!
