That's the deal breaker for me if you can't nest folders. I'm glad you folks commented that you can.

Yep, you can nest folders. Just need to name them as folder/subfolder so for instance if you had a folder for Linux and wanted to create a sub-folder for Server1 then it would be Linux/Server1

I'd love a how-to Bitwarden video on sharing with husband-wife or husband-wife-kid1 with each person having an individual vault but perhaps a shared vault for husband-wife for common passwords. I'm a long-time KeePass user but want something flexible for when I get married. Thanks Tom! Long time viewer

It works the same, first each person creates and account, then one person creates the collection and invites the others to that collection.

Great video, Tom! I've been running self-hosted Bitwarden in my lab for two years, I had just a positive experience! I did this installation after your guides and review! I'd definitely recommend it to anyone! Small note: nested folders are allowed in private vault. I can't post link to official doc, YT deletes my comment in this case, however my wife and I have two-level structure in our private vaults. And we use organization for the shared platforms like PGE, etc.

Yes, it's possible! Placing an item in "rootfolder/subfolder" would create a nested folder 👍

I like bidwarden and Im using a lot. But I find that when an item is placed in a collecton I have the rights to it, i see this item in the "no folder" folder. I know I can filter with vaults but I ended up with creating folder with the same name as the organisations and then creating subfolder to categorize the items. This is especially necessary if you are a member of more then one organization with free tier, so there is only one collection and no subcollections.

Probably because I imported my vault from KeePass but I have nested folders in bitwarden so it does support nested folders, but I don't think you csn create from GUI

You can, but when creating a nested folder you need to name it folder/subfolder and dont think its possible in the apps only in web i think

I looked into this with a coworker a couple of weeks ago. If I remember correctly, you actually can, it's just not intuitive at all. As far as I can remember, you have to create `folder/subfolder` *AND* the `folder` separately. If you forget the parent folder, you won't see the "nested" UI. So, from BW's perspective, the "nesting" is just a display quirk, everything´s organized in a flat namespace (like e.g. in S3). They also documented this behavior in their help: > If there is no folder with the corresponding "parent" name, the folder won't nest and its title will be displayed in-full.

You can create them from the UI. You have to do it like that: L1/L2/L3 If you have a folder name L1 and another L1/L2, the structure will look like this: L1 L2 L3

The diagram for folder vs collections was good but after hearing the explanation it sounds more similar to tags. For example say i have a password for a cisco router for "customer B". It sounds like you could have a collection for each attribute, "customers", "routers", "cisco", but maybe there isnt much reason to do that.

Fantastic video, as always! I'm curious about how you handle MFA for Microsoft tenants, especially with the new push authentication. It's become a significant pain point for us currently since techs have them on their phones and they can't be stored in Bitwarden anymore. Do you have any suggestions?

I’m curious how you manage accounts where you can only have a single login but need multiple people to sign in, like a company bank account. Do you give just one person the 2FA and then they get asked for the authentication whenever anyone tries to sign in to that account? What’s the best way to manage such a thing?

If the account is TOTP you can use an app such as Aegis to copy the TOTP to another phone
@zeroforkgiven

@@LAWRENCESYSTEMS I haven't tried this with multiple users, but Bitwarden has TOTP available itself.
@Mr.Leeroy

TOTP is based on secret string, which is then encoded into QR code, you may use both on infinite number of devices to generate same codes. But something like bank account should definitely be managed on role basis, probably limited to a person held accountable for keeping, unless bank offers permission separation across multiple accounts.

Would you recommend self hosting bitwarden for something small like a family? Is it worth it to selfhost at that scale and do you completely lose access if your server goes offline or is a local copy stored on your phone for example?
@LAWRENCESYSTEMS
Жыл бұрын
Self hosing is fine as long as you have the skills to do it and maintain it. The system is well secured if you have them host it.

It's a great service for self-hosting! I'd definitely recommend it. I believe that your phone has a cache version for the last used version if the server goes down / not accessible.

Their free plan is super generous... and you can still access your passwords if you're not online. The databases sync with the online repository as soon as you're back online...

@@LAWRENCESYSTEMS Good to know! Do you know why something as common and popular as Bitwarden isn't available in common repos?
