It's nice to see a tutorial that shows what can be achieved with things you most likely already own (or can purchase readily at low cost), instead of operating under the assumption that you have an expensive DSLR camera with a high-end macro lens laying around, and an entire area set up with perfect lighting.

Thanks for making this video - I had asked my husband to make one of these stands for me, but I wasn't 100% sure I had the items rubber piece size correct, so told him to wait - I'm glad to see I didn't steer him wrong and he can get to work on making it!

For people using the links, make sure to choose the 4" coupler as there are different sizes to choose from and it defaults to 3". Great video!
@BopWalk
8 ай бұрын
Sorry but this is actually wrong , 4" is actually the WRONG size. The 4" version on the coupler on Amazon is actually 4 1/8" - 5" which is too big for the ring light clamp to fit. The ring light clamp is a little less than 4", so you will want to order the 3" coupler which has the size of 3"- 4" which will fit the ringlight clamp snuggily. This is not your fault, it's just the item dimensions in the listing which is confusing.

Luster is reflective. The black tube will effect the luster along with the light wavelength. If you can change to lamp color do it. Luster and toning works best with amber/red light.

Anything you do will do that as well, and why this is just to get clear enough images to translate for online purposes or to upload to mintstate.com. Thanks for your input!

I was using a similar lamp but much larger of 8 inches diameter, with the movement above the coin in the larger lamp you can photograph all the luster of the coin. But I am also getting these equipments that you suggest to take other pictures with out Luster, for a clearer shot. Thanks

When you turned your Morgan dollar from obverse to reverse at 3:59, I noticed that you did momentarily hold your coin by your thumb and index finger. Unless you had washed your hands like a medical doctor before this process to alleviate any oils from these two fingerprint areas, you could have permanently marked what appears to be a mint state coin. Any comment?

Does the iPhone setup give better photos than the USB microscope? (I own the same microscope)
@mintstatecointechnologies4057
3 жыл бұрын
For larger coins, I find the zoom on the microscopes to be too powerful for a good photo of the full coin. (Other microscopes might adjust better.) Roughly 50% of our users are mobile based, so the microscope is not their preferred option.
@mbrown5494
3 жыл бұрын
@@mintstatecointechnologies4057 Agreed. For large coins I had to get a very tall Leuchtturm (yes, correct spelling) stand. It's the only one I found to take Mogans, and Eagles with that USB Scope. I was just wondering if you felt you were getting better results with the phone setup
@mintstatecointechnologies4057
3 жыл бұрын
@@mbrown5494 I like the light control with the phone setup, but as far as the capture of detail (important for AI training) they have similar results. If you like the microscope photos you get, no need to change really. If you are on the move when the need arises and don't want to use a laptop w/ tall "leuchtturm", it's a good option.
