Thank you for all the information. I rescued a beardie from a store. He didn’t have much touch for about 6 months. I am playing catch-up. I have never had a beardie before so I am doing my best but he is definitely afraid. Right now I am at the stage of him getting used to my hand in his cage and me petting him. Mouth open was only a week ago or so. I stand and talk to him all the time. I can tell he’s listening lol. Definitely not ready to be picked up. I am slightly afraid too. I am trying. Ugh. One day at a time. Again thanks for the information!!!

It sounds like you are doing such a great job being patient and using your intuition with him! And also slowly building your confidence with him too

I've had my baby dragon for 5 weeks now. Mine was friendly for first two weeks. Now it opens mouth and hissing at me. I'm trying to work with it. To let it know I'm not a threat. But nothing really helps. I've gave it baths and tried tong feeding it. But want take it. It just runs off.

Can you recommend how to end an experience positively if it hasn't gone well. For example if I'm going to pick up beardie and he runs away, what can I do from there - I don't want to stress him more but I also don't want to just stop and close the enclosure as thats ending badly! Love the video, thank you!

Loved this video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Turns out I am doing much of this naturally so yay me! I do like the tip about night time so will try that as well. My lil guy is so small many times I am worried about either hurting him or him getting lose cause there are so many places to hide.

I just got my little bearded dragon today, i put my hand in the tank so she can start getting use to me, shes super curious but seems to be super friendly, she hasnt puffed up or opened her mouth at me yet but has backed away a bit. She has been tilting her head at me like how a dog would, is that just her being curious? Love to post a picture of her but bot sure how. Thanks for your video, super helpful!

I have an adult, and he was allowed to free roam an apartment and wasn’t really given human attention, I have no idea the age, the original owner simply didn’t want him anymore, but I can tell he has no trust for humans. Can you maybe help so I can make Mr. Garrison feel more comfortable with me? He gets upset just by someone walking by the enclosure.

i had a small one and kept it in a fish tank, but had no heat source besides morning sun heating his rock. I tried to feed it slaters and banana. it never seemed to eat, never seemed to grow, but lived for a year or so before it died. what happened?

Hi Chappo, I'm so sorry to hear about your bearded dragon and I'm sorry for your loss! Bearded dragons need a basking temperature of around 40 degrees celsius to digest their food, and a diet of predominantly insects when they are growing. They also need a UVB light (basically sunlight) for 10-12 hours a day to absorb calcium. Without the UVB they can get a common disease known as metabolic bone disease (MBD). The reason yours passed away may have been a combination of things, but the lack of UVB sounds like a probable cause

@@Kaityscichlids Oh thanks, I assumed it was not enough heat, but didn't know they needed it for so long. I was like 14 years old, couldn't get a cool heat lamp. Should have took him outside more, but worried about the cats getting him.

@@chappo8100 Yeah, they are one of the more finicky lizards to look after in terms of requirements, especially compared to something like a blue tongue skink. I take mine outside a bit but I also worry about predators. I'm always keeping a close eye on her when she's out

Yea they need a basking light and needs to bask for 12 hrs. And lights off at night only. And need uvb to keep them from getting mbd.

I find that when they are babies they are extra skittish, you might find as he gets older he gets a bit more confident
