One rug had a black strip sewn down the back side. What is that called and is it to keep the rug from curling? I've noticed it in some workshop rugs and wasn't sure what it was. Thank you for your great videos! 🙏

*Abstract* (made with Gemini Advanced 1.0) This video offers instruction on differentiating machine-made and hand-knotted rugs. Here's a summary of the key points: *Identifying Traits of Hand-Knotted vs. Machine-Made Rugs* * *Front Design:* * *Machine-made:* Perfectly symmetrical patterns. * *Hand-knotted:* Subtle imperfections and asymmetry, especially in tribal and village rugs. * *Rug Straightness:* * *Machine-made:* Precisely identical measurements along the edges. * *Hand-knotted:* Potential slight variations in dimensions. * *Back of the Rug:* * *Machine-made:* Stiff, synthetic feel; design not visible at the back. * *Hand-knotted:* Softer texture (cotton, wool, silk); knots and design apparent on the reverse. * *Fringes:* * *Machine-made:* Often attached separately, uniform appearance, synthetic materials. * *Hand-knotted:* Integral to the rug's foundation, natural materials, may have inconsistencies or embellishments. *The speaker emphasizes that the fringes are the most reliable telltale sign for distinguishing between machine-made and hand-knotted rugs.* *Call to Action:* * *Resources:* The speaker suggests further research by viewing rug images and videos; and invites viewers to explore the company website (Catalina Rug).
