Did you end up getting more later on ? Same thing happened to me with one of my platys I’ve had for a while thought she was pregnant looked like she was about to burst so I put her in her own tank literally the next morning I saw 4 small fry

I bought three from PetSmart yesterday, one was giving birth this morning. I think she is dying now! Too much stress from the move? No signs she was pregnant, she’s really young and small.

Great video and you explained it well ! I'm keeping a close eye on Sylvia, my Platy, she's close but not quite there yet! My instincts tell me it's a little bit too soon to put her in the box. So I'm watching for her to show signs that she's real close. I can't wait ! They are so darn cute. Thanks for the video! 💓

Great ! Enjoyed listening to you , my platy is about to have another batch! It was only because the guy at the aquarium shop told me that some fish " retain the s**rm from the male " that I learned they could have several batches over several months. I also switched to sponge filters and not the cannister one. Saves them being sucked into the filters. 🐟

Thank you very much for the information! My fish have had babies on 3 different occasions that I know of, and I was only able to save 1 the first and second time. This last time, I was able to save 2. It's just hard to tell because a lot of my females are all big, but this will help me hopefully save more in the future 🙏

I have a small but dense plastic plant in my tank & with experience I've realised that although I thought it was ugly it's a really safe place for Fry to go. Also, as it catches food & debris the fry can eat. Its worked really well , & also I changed from cannister filter to a £6 sponge one, the fry don't get sucked in. Good luck.

@vixenvg thank you very much. I've actually started using yarn and switched to a sponge filter. I made some miniature mop heads and just let him hang near the bottom of the tank. I've been saving so many that I started donating them to my lfs.

She might got attacked by other fish in your tank. Males can be very aggressive towards females, especially after some period of splitting them up.

How often do they keep giving birth? I noticed 2 babies 2 hours ago and kept watching her and no more babies came. She finally went into the breeder box. I'm assuming she has more than 2 so I'm wondering how long I should keep her in the box? All night? Any help is appreciated. This is my first time. I think the 2 fry were eaten because I cant find them.
@AquascapingCube
7 ай бұрын
I can take up to several days sometimes. It strongly depends on the age and size of your fish. You can keep her in the breeding box all night. It will be fine. If there are no more babies, it's possible that she started to give birth much earlier before you noticed and she is done. Good luck!

Hi, it's very informative vdo, my platy just gslve birth today, 17babies :) what to feed the babies? And mama fish has the same shape of stomach like before the birth, how do I know it's done? Please suggest, thank you.
@AquascapingCube
Жыл бұрын
Congrats! :) Platy can give birth for very long time. Between few hours up to several days! So you have to be patient and just observe her behaviour. There are few options to feed the fry. Luckily platy fry is quite big, so if you don't have any better option you can feed them with crushed flakes (crush them with your fingers into very small pieces). The best option would be live foods but it requires some time and effort, I created a video about this here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/mpym4H9pqn-FfmU Good luck! Raising small fish is always awesome :)

@@AquascapingCube thank you so much for your reply, do you think I should keep the mama platy in same container for one more day? While she's very active now?
@AquascapingCube
Жыл бұрын
@@zeegirls If she is very active I would remove her. There is a good chance that she might eat the fry. Even if she will give birth to few more, those might be fine in your main tank. But those in container will be in danger during the night with her.

My platy gave birth I assume whilst I was at work though my girlfriend checked on her earlier today and didn’t see any fry. I had been keeping her in a breeder box but they’re are only two fry does this mean I’ve missed her giving birth to all fry and she’s eaten most of them or has she not stopped giving birth?
@AquascapingCube
6 ай бұрын
It's possible that she is still giving birth. Or your fry could just escape from breeder box, because some of them have gaps that little fish can squeeze through. Just wait for another few hours and if nothing happens - keep the 2 babies and focus on them. She will give birth again after max one month ;)

Hi, I don't think that it's normal. When Platy is close to birth her abdomen can become almost black. But only in that place, not on the entire body. If your platy has problems with scales - that might mean some sort of disease.

Someone plzz help 🙏 This was strange as hell 4 weeks ago 5 platy fish died leaving only a single platy fish (orange in color) and today i saw nearly 20 babies (black) in my aquarium Is there any possibility that other platys fertilised her before death? And how come babies are black in color?
@AquascapingCube
Жыл бұрын
Hi, yes it's totally possible. She might get fertilized even before you got her. They can store sperm for few pregnancies and if she got the sperm from black father - babies could get the color from him. And the crazy thing is, after birth, she can get pregnant again, even though she is alone :)

I have a kind of weird question haha. I have a female platy who’s been pregnant and is supposed to give birth in maybe a week. the male keeps getting it on with her today and she seems to be swimming away each time. Even tho I just put them back together because I had them separated for the last few days bShould I separate them again or is that normal? Lol
@AquascapingCube
Жыл бұрын
This is normal and males often are harassing females no matter the situation. It should be ok, but I would keep observing both of them. Males can become a bit aggressive and if this happens I would separate them until female gives birth and feels stronger.
