Me!! But everytime I even mention traveling he starts talking about “other priorities”. Few days ago he mentioned that maybe at his 40s (he’s 31) I really don’t want to wait 9 years to travel. He is part of a band, they travel a lot and I’m usually holding down the fort. I don’t know how to explain him that I wanna have those experiences too, but by myself or with my friends.

This. Depending on the person, by week number 3/4 you start to have a virtual partner. Then it degrades further to a pen pal.. next thing you know, you stop caring and get used to them not being there. Then you move on (especially mentally)if they’re still gone for months.

I think this is one of those things that depends entirely on the couple involved and their situation, it's not just a black or white thing. If the relationship is totally stable, and there is no underline issues that are already casuing some sort of imbalance, and both are very happy with this, then, this can be a good thing. But where we have people still the the developing stages of a relationship, or there ARE certain imbalances within, for example the couple are not seeing eachother enough, the relationship hasn't progressed enough to "that" stable stage etc. Then, it can be seen as disrespectful to the other person involved People online are very quick to immediately label something as "right" or "wrong" but most things require a more conscious understanding of the specifiity of the situation- relationships can be complicated, and in one situation this might be totally acceptable and normal, and in another, not so

Thank you for this video. I'm 35 yrs old. I've been married 14 yrs and have a 13 yr old and a 15 year old. This year I'm planning my first solo trip to Thailand. I'll be gone for the whole month of June. My friends and family think I'm crazy.... but I explained to my hubby (who is incredible) that something about it is just calling me and I will always regret it if I don't do it. He is being supportive and I am so grateful to him. He has the added responsibility of taking care of kids while I am gone (they can almost take care of self but you know what I mean) plus he is the income provider (I'm a sahm) so he is footing the bill. Even a few years ago I don't think he would have ever been ok with me going. It has taken a long time to build the trust and respect needed for something like this. Heck it's a double standard but I don't think even I would be ok with him going for a month. (A week or two with the boys no problem but a month in thailand... nope). I thank my lucky stars for him every day and try my best to show him my appreciation for his support in every way I can. It's a beautiful gift he is giving me and I won't take his sacrifice lightly. I do worry what people will think when they meet me and see my wedding band but no spouse around. I hope I won't be judged to harshly. I'm gonna miss him and kids like crazy but there is just something in me I can't explain that is telling me to go. And I'm going. I can do this. I must.

@@olgacherkasova3522 had the time of my life. Him and kids were fine, I called every morning and video chatted with them all for a few min each night. Best choice I ever made for myself although I did have some people judge me for going alone and "leaving my family". Screw them, moms are allowed a break from time to time too. And I ended up going for 6 weeks, did Vietnam, Cambodia. Thailand and a week in Australia. Did a stopover in Qatar for just 24 hrs so I could see the desert and eat and shop on way home. Took just a backpack, even stayed at some hostels. Never felt lonely. I did feel old though compared to a lot of travelers there.

Yesss to all of this!!! My boyfriend and I are anthropologists so our schedules are rarely synched and luckily we've alway supported the other's travel adventures. Just this fall I spent 3 months backpacking when he had to be doing fieldwork and while, sure, I missed him, it was also a life-changing experience that wouldn't have been the same with anyone else. I love traveling together as well but traveling alone is just a different kind of trip and both are such amazing experiences. Also, spending time apart is such a great way to remind yourself how much you love being with your partner! Or if you're not missing them, it also might be a good indicator that something needs to change.

I understand the need of wanting to have your own experience but i also think being in a realtioship is also wanting to share your life with someone, if you only want to share your life sometimes is not fair for the other part at all. If we both travel solo at the same time is much better and neither of us feel left out. In my personal experience one of us travelling solo when the other one is at home has damaged a lot the relationship and now the majority of experiences in our free time are spent alone or with other people we are grwoing apart.

My husband is on a thru hike. He is retired, and I'm unable to retire, as my job provides the healthcare, and many other perks. I was very supportive in the beginning, but my patience is waning. I didn't know enough to set boundaries in the beginning, nor talk over how to include me in this hike. I have been on my own for 4 months now, and what started as a solo hike for him has changed. Needless to say I am experiencing being left out on so many levels. There is also some inappropriate behaviors going on that leave me doubting myself and my relationship on a daily basis. I'm often the bad guy when I discuss what I see to be problems. I worry for our future.

Do you feel that there is anxiety and distrust that could be the issue? Sometimes we develop “ routines” around our partners and to deviate from that, even to do something as normal as traveling, can cause a breakdown in the relationship or traveling solo could reveal something already crumbling…

Nothing. If you love her, show her you do by letting her go. She should have her freedom. She should feel free to go. Its actually best for relationships to miss each other sometimes. Give yourself and her an opportunity to long for each other, to miss each other and remember what you love about each other. Give each other a chance to be by yourself, to sort out your thoughts, to meditate, to check if each of your personal needs is met, and if not, what changes need to happen. Solitude is crucial for self development. Even if you love each other strongly, having alone time will only strengthen your bond and understanding. Also feeling the trust you have for each other is a must. If you dont trust her to go on a solo trip - you shouldnt be with her in the first place. Thats controlling, thats lack of trust. Relationship requires trust.
@cossackgirl_ZP
Жыл бұрын
Let her find things that are better than what you have! Why wouldnt you want that? Then she can come back and you can talk about how you can improve the quality of your life together!! If you are worried she will find a guy on a short trip, that is better than you…. Why are you with her?? That’s zero trust. And low self esteem. First off its impossible ti find someone in a few days and feel what its going to be like dating them. That happens only in the movies. Second, you really don’t think she is better than that? Third, if she finds someone who in her opinion is better than you - then let her go, why would you want to stay with someone who doesnt love you? When you love someone you dont care who is “better”. Also ask her how you can be better. Not for her. In general, always do self development, try to become a better person every day - and then you wont have to worry and will have a higher self esteem. And when and if your partner leaves you - you will at least know its not you, its them.

I guess I'm in that weird minority of people whose spouse is SUPER supportive of me solo travelling. My husband is military, so we already spend months apart and don't have to see each other every day for our relationship to work. He also doesn't care to travel much when he's home because of the fact that he spends so much time away already. So, if I tell him I want to go somewhere and he's not interested or he's already away, it's a simple "Have fun honey. If you like it, maybe we can go together in the future." Kind of conversation. I lucked out and married someone who loves me because of the fact that I'm independent and encourages my independence and vice versa. But I think the big thing is having that open dialogue and communication and trust in your significant other that helps those conversations along.

What's normal? And if its following a life path that doesn't light me up, give me weirdo all day long! BTW, we have been together for 20 years now, married, have a child and still travel solo and are stronger than ever :)

I dont get the point of this awkward conversation is, because no music, no funny effect, no keynote or subtitle of important things of what you saying. less emotion/express of what you feeling about travel solo. No B roll of when you travelling solo. need to improve

delco714 exactly and the divorce or separation rate is super high over 50% Millennials are selfish and I’m one but have an older up brining I’m not leaving my significant other behind Ppl just say we together but really be single and playing house As long as they have their side of the rent. That’s not a relationship that’s coexistence
