Thank you for the block diagram in your excellent presentation. This is a very useful abstraction. I've had success filtering and displaying PID data from the ECM, i.e. RPM, temperature, speed etc; However, I've never had success in isolating data from the BCM , i.e. direction indicators and so forth. No matter where I look, I seem unable to find information about how to access the BCM, to carry out more work on that part of the CAN bus.

When your car breaks down and you go to a mechanic, this is the type of stuff you expect them to know. But most of the time they just use a scanner, read the codes, and tell you you need a new module or component, whatever matches the error. My local Peugeot dealer tried to tell me I needed a new ABS module ($800) because I had an ESP/ABS warning light on. I drove away as fast as I could, and later figured out that it was a dirty EGR valve causing the problem.

The 120 ohm resistors are necessary on long bus control legs where signal ringing can occur and messages are received twice (called Ring Back). Ringback does cause comms issues and needs to be silenced. These 120 ohm resistors ensure that ringback does not happen because they load down the BUS and absorb the signal at the end of the BUS. They can only be used at the last component at the end of the BUS. Some BUS’s don’t need terminating resistors by design. Small or short range BUS should not need them at all. Because the BUS is so short that ringing cannot occur on a small / short BUS. Long circuits (long distance BUS) must use them because ringing will happen and control / Comms may not be possible or many errors my be observed.

Good morning my friend and nice to meet you! My vehicle (2003 Dodge Caravan Se V6 3.3) is giving me a (P0201-Injector Circuit/Open Cylinder 1) code and i have a (2003 POWERTRAIN DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES book for town & country, caravan and voyager) that shows on page 88-89 test procedures to follow and apply. So far i have applied (test 1) and (test 2) and im on (test 3) now and im stuck on not being able to follow and apply it cause im not grasping and understanding it at all. This is test 3 Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Fuel Injector harness connector. Remove the ASD Relay from the IPM. Turn the ignition on. Jumper the Fused B+ circuit and the ASD Relay Output circuit in the IPM. (This part im lost) Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, probe the (K342) ASD Relay Output circuit. Does the test light illuminate brightly? Yes Go To 4 No Repair the open in the (K342) ASD Relay Output circuit. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-5. This is a video of me following and applying (test 2-kzitem.info/news/bejne/05iwt3-vooColnY) and in that video it shows the pages in the book from pages 88-89 and pages 312-314 for code (P0201-Injector Circuit/Open Cylinder 1). Are you able to please make a video showing me how to perform all of these test procedures so it can help me grasp and understand to where im able to apply the test procedures from all those pages?

@13:34 I saw another video that said when the can was asleep here you should be reading 0V but you are getting 1V. So which one is correct? The reason I ask is because I did this test when CAN is asleep and I get 1.55v ~ 1.88v. According to that video that is a short to voltage
@MRDIAGNOSTECH
3 ай бұрын
During this test, the network was asleep because the ignition was on the off position, but it would take a few minutes to shut down entirely. If the door was closed, it would have read 0V after a few minutes, shutting down the network.

Your OBD 2 Wiring Diagram most likely will be in your www.alldatadiy.com Subscription for your particular vehicle. ( Get the Yearly subscription ) CAN vehicles didn't come on the Scene until Model Year 2007 or 2008 , so Control Area Network shouldn't be in your 2001 Vehicle..... On a CAN vehicle, Terminal 6 is CAN Hi & Terminal 14 is CAN Low....With the car keys in your pocket & your Meter Set on the Ohms Scale - one Lead barely touching # 6 & the other Lead barely touching Terminal 14 should yield 60 Ohms ( + or - ) 2 Ohms. A Big problem is a Lotta people Penetrate!!! the Terminals on The Data Link Connector & 2 months down the road someone connects with a Scan Tool : Won't communicate with the Scan Tool : Sometimes the Fault is someone has continuously Expanded the Mouth on the DLC. Hey. What should I measure when I only have K line and no Can bus system. I have a subaru wrx from 2006. There is an orange wire on Pin 3 and a green/black wire on pin 8. There should usually be no pinout. I looked in the manual, and on the internet, but everyone has their pin out set differently. I have no full power to the OBD port, but it won´t connect to the ECU.

Disconnecting battery to check voltage will result in radio presets etc. How can we avoid this.
@MRDIAGNOSTECH
Жыл бұрын
This can also erase obd monitors status, you can either record the radio presets or try to do the resistance test while battery is disconnected, but make sure that all modules are asleep by waiting at leat 15 minutes before performing this test after the ignition has been turned off.

Hi, Great explanation. This has been very useful. However, the very last test you show is resistance across pins 6 to 14 with the ignition on; your meter is showing a 0.2. Doing this same set of tests I have 60 ohms with battery off, then with battery/IGN on I have 2.46V high and low indicating possible short between the two, however when I do the last test I get 60 ohms again with battery/Ign on. Am I doing something wrong?

If one of the ground pins is not connected, some scan tools will not communicate due to a missing ground, not all tools use the same ground pin so fixing or jumping a ground is what is needed for the diagnosis. Pin fit is the next problem when a certain scan tool will not work so tighten pins in the DLC. If the scan tool still won't work, contact the maker for a software update please. Some manufacturer spec for ohms is upwards of 70, a true problem will be quite far from 60 ohms. If there is a short and the car was not in an accident, the first question to ask the owner is, do you have any aftermarket items added to the car, some asshole used the DLC wired to get power or ground or both and did a very bad job to make good clean connections.
