I show how to test variable timing control or test variable valve timing with a scanner using the XTOOL D7. Although this active test is done on 2013 - 2017 Honda Accords, the scan tool will also do the test on some other cars. Be sure to check coverage on XTOOL's website. Branded differently by manufacturers e.g., variable camshaft timing VCT on Fords, VVT on Toyota, VTC on Honda, VANOS on BMW, understanding valve timing is a basic requirement to troubleshoot valve timing related issues e.g. misfires, defective variable valve timing solenoid, etc.
