You gave tips that are never mentioned in the manuals. I’m going to rethread my machine right now, and see if I’ve been missing something. Thank you! That small guide there right before you put the thread in the needle, how important is that one? I’ve not been using it, (nothing in the manual) could that be causing occasional missed stitches? I just rethreaded it correctly and as I’m testing it the stitches seem better.

This video just saved me lol I had been trying to figure out what was wrong with my machine for at least 3 hours and this video had the answer. Thank you so much ✨

Such a basic thing, but can make such a difference in the performance of the sewing machine.

Step one, for every successful sewing project, is to always thread the machine correctly. You’re correct. There no substitute for getting it right. 😎👍🏼

1) How tight is it supposed to be when you tug on the thread in the tension disc ? 2) it's not picking up the bobbin thread. I've completely forgotten how to do this. ☹️

I love my Kenmore Ultra Stitch 8 from the early 1980's. It seems like it only cost between $125-$150 brand new and it has been a great dependable machine. Recently I have found 2 others very similar to it in thrift stores, a 6 stitch and a 10 stitch, and they were only $10-$15 each and both had cases. All mine are portable which I prefer, otherwise you need a cabinet. (I can always use the extra machines for parts.) Threading a machine correctly makes all the difference.

You’re welcome. I’m amazed at how many KZitem videos that are out there showing folks how to thread various machines, and they leave out step one. It would be like giving step by step instructions on how to sit down, but without first looking to see if there’s a chair behind you. Or, if the chair has a rattlesnake or a banana cream pie on it. Sometimes step one, is the important and unskippable step.

I have the option to purchase one of these but it would be shipped across the country to get to me- literally from the East Coast to the West Coast. Do you think it would make the trip well? And should I take it to be serviced after I get it?

If you can convince the shipper to pack the machine properly, go for it. Good luck with that. I’ve sent written, step by step package instructions, on numerous occasions. I still received damaged machines. The packing has to be tight with no movement. Remove and pack carefully the spool pins and bobbin winder assemblies. Use large cell bubble wrap and not small cell bubble wrap. No noodles. If the machine is in a carrying case, the inside of the case has to be packed tightly as well. If there is any part that moves, shakes, rattles, or contacts anything, it will break in transit. It would be easier to send heirloom China than a sewing machine unless you have the machines original manufacturers packaging. There are specific packing boxes and associated custom packing for many fragile things, but none for sewing machines. The shipper needs to be experienced and detail oriented to make it work. If arrives undamaged, oil it and it will serve you well.
