The best wind for a distance roller is a straight tailwind. If you get it stood up with some spin, if it tries to cut roll or finish to the flight top, the tailwind will push it back straight, as well as adding some forward momentum. Side winds are the worst, as the wind is pushing a big flat surface perpendicular to your target.

This series is called Level Up, and it is such a great series.- But I think something that really needs to be mentioned is Brian.- He has (to use the title here) Leveled Up his game (social media/media presence) SO MUCH this season.- His on-field analysis during tournaments, this detailed but very applicable to all skill levels coaching series.- Everything he's been doing this year has just been so excellent.- Honestly, I love to see it.- I can't wait to see how much more he grows and just makes this his own.- He's going to be one of the best for sure.- Keep going Brian... As for this episode, man I needed this.- Learning how to throw/understand rollers is a goal of mine for this offseason.- Once I can start getting back out there and get my offseason fieldwork sessions going, I'm definitely going to be using the tips from this video.- As of right now, the only roller I do is the RHFH scramble roller.- I too use my Zone or my Putter...

In regard to asking what other topics, we would like to see covered: I would love to see a video detailing when to use a flex shot for shot shaping (especially in the woods), a video on backhand turnover lines - contrasted with forehand lines teaching viewers when to use them, a video about playing in the wind, a putting video, and a course strategy video. Those would round out your series well I think.

Yaaaay thanks Brian, money in the bank. I’d love to see some nose angle videos, as in how and when to throw nose up, which could dovetail into upshot talk I guess. I know y’all have a putting video coming, but jump and step putts are complete mysteries to me!

Finally a video that actually explains HOW to throw a roller. I don’t know how many videos there are about rollers that never actually explain how to throw them. I’ve been playing since 2018 and have never been able to find a video with enough explanation for me to be able to practice and experiment with the backhand roller. Thank you so much for this.

For back hand distance rollers I use a Lucid Escape. Forehand distance rollers I use an ABCG Teebird³ and a NSCG Firebird. Close forehand rollers I use a Rat.

Forehand I’ll use anything to get out of trouble from a A4 to a Buzzz to a brokenly BEEFY Swirly Star Orc. I use an Innova Monarch and Roadrunner for backhand. I prefer the Monarch because it’s in champion and has a dye job that’s fun to watch roll. I use to use a Prodigy F7 till I lost it in the top of a cypress when accidentally throwing a sky roller on hole 6 at Tyus Park in Griffin, GA.

I'd like a video on showing more tips for form, when throwing each of the types. I've tried backhand rollers, and I'll even super exaggerate leaning back and how my arm goes, but it just won't turn over for me. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

The thing I like is that it goes into how disc physics don't change just because the disc is rolling, I see a bunch of stuff throwing rollers and it's almost like the only object is get the disc to start rolling and bam you're done, and I see tons of people who only use super flippy discs that they can get up on the edge quick and easy, like -4 and -5 turn, and sure there are applications for that, but a big distance roller is not one of them, and when you see pros who have mastered the roller, like Simon going long on an 800 ft par 5 or something, he's not throwing a flippy disc. Air is still passing the flight plate, so that disc is going to continue behaving the same way in relation to the air no matter what angle it is on. Thanks for being one of the few places to actually point this out.

Not to burst your bubble, but the mountain courses in Colorado have rock, brush and general unevenness which are not well suited for rollers. I can't think of a single mountain course hole where roller is the play off the tee. They for sure can come in handy on some park courses in the front range though! If you ever play in Longmont, hole 7 long (par 4) at Clark Centennial is a great backhand roller and at Wildcat Ridge, pad of 6 to 7's basket (tournament layout / par 4) is a perfect rightly forehand roller!

Forehand flip/hyzerflip distance roller here. Discmania astronaut and Innova star mamba are my two go-to roller discs for big flip roller forehands. Takes a long time and lots of practice to get the angles right, but so worth it in the long run. Laid down a 430 foot forehand roller today, and that's a lot considering I'm about a 300-325 foot thrower with air shots. Learning the roller has been a massive tool for me and my game. Great vid!

Thumber roller/tomahawk is a great scramble shot in disc golf. The other I like to do is the end of flight roller for really long open holes using a understsble disc Mantis like or more understsble in light weights 160 grams or under.
