The first video he did where he introduced the Berluti knot is what got me hooked on this channel. I use that knot for all of my footwear, not just my leather shoes, because I've been plagued by my hiking boots coming untied for years.

Ever since you brought up the parisian knot in this video's predecessor from a couple of years ago, this knot has served me well. I cannot think of a good reason why this is not common practice! Thanks again for bringing this knot to my attention, Kirby. It's made my life just that little bit more hassle-free.

Parisian knot for me as well. It is so easy to undo it and has plenty of strength.

Nice video! Addition to the Berluti-knot: you can tighten and tidy up the knot by pulling the loops to the outside. The middle part of the knot will come closer together then and the loops still lay 90 degrees to each side of the shoe. I also like the sound effects you introduced in this video for "dramatic effect".

Interesting. I grew up in Mumbai and my dad taught me a knot (30 years ago) that is almost the same as the Berluti knot except he only used to guide one loop through the center loop instead of both. After knowing what Berluti knot is from this video, I was able to get the Berluti knot done pretty easily and quickly in first attempt. The figure-8 looks elegant, so this will be my goto. Thanks Kirby!

Details. That's what I love about Kirby's videos. Having the Berluti knot in my muscle memory means that my laces sit flat, neat and horizontal to my shoes. They never, ever come undone. As important to me as being able to fasten my bow tie or do a Windsor knot in seconds. I was stopped in York, UK and complemented by a stranger yesterday about how smart my outfit was. Thanks Kirby, you're raising standards for all of us watching and it was a pleasure to meet you in London.

Oddly enough, I picked up the Berluti knot quicker than I did the Parisian. However, both have served me well since I watched your previous videos on them a couple years ago.

My wife taught me the one you call "PARISIAN". I had only been tying my laces the first way for 60 years! The Parisian is great and is used by knowledgeable backpackers (who wants to trip on an open lace and fall off a mountain?). Years ago I was at a presentation by the world's greatest salesman, Zig Ziglar, he was telling us how one can learn from just about anyone you encounter, if you are paying attention. He then proceeded to tell us a story about how on his travels one of his favorite shoeshine men taught him the knot you call Parisian.

I just use the regular shoe tie but instead of going up the lace, I go down. This insure that your lace isn't crooked but perfectly horizontal

The way I tie the Berluti knot is by making two opposite loops out of the “bunny ears” and wrap them both around each other. There is a way it needs to be done, or else it won’t work, but it is much faster.

Whatever knot you use, make sure you are tieing it like a square knot. Left over Right, then Right over Left. It will make it a more secure knot for each technique without affecting any of the other qualities.

I have never ever had a Berluti knot come untied! Plus, when tied properly, it is a perfectly symmetrical knot. Mr. Allison has a more detailed video about this knot. Please click on show more; there is a link to the video "How To Tie a Berluti Knot".

Hi. I have these gorgeous leather boots. I saw these mirror shine videos and decided to try it. I used Kiwi leather cream, kiwi polish and hush puppies beeswax polish. I applied the cream and buffed the shoe and then I applied the wax with a damp cotton cloth. The problem now is that the toe cap of my boots looks way too dull, cloudy and feels so dry to the touch. Try as I might, I applied numerous layers of both the cream and the wax but to no avail. Ultimately, I picked up a blow dryer and tried to heat the toe cap in order to melt anything on there which may be causing the issue but it only made a minor improvement. Any suggestions for the cloudy and dull toe cap would be much appreciated.

This video is a miss. I was expecting a video on how to lace your shoes, but got some useless knots instead. The standard knot works perfectly as long as you tie the first and second loop in different directions and tighten properly. It's elegant, low profile, easy and lies correctly.
