Admittedly knots are a weakness, always have been, possibly tied to dyslexia, who knows? Luckily we didn't tie too many knots when I was stationed on submarines back in the Cold War. So, taking this down time to challenge my weakness. Appreciate your strength, skills, and the vid!

Deeply impressed with this video. Spent £7.50 ( $10.40) on The Knot Skills Kit which sent two different coloured ropes ( good quality) and instructions card- (utterly useless). Thank you for using two different coloured ropes, the uses of the knot, the benefits and the limitations of the knot, appropriate situations where it can be used and situations where it should not be used. High quality educational video. Subscribed after this first video.

Thank you so much for this slow video. My grandson is in wolf Cub scouts and he is just learning knots. The videos that they have go way too fast and just looking at the book totally confuses the both of us. Thank you so much for making this slow video tutorial. we also learned about the thief's knot. because I was just trying to get him to make the knot look this way, I probably was accidentally making the thief's not which would not have gotten him a good score with his cub master.

I'd say it's more confusing, but maybe that's the way Americans are being taught. I've been using this knot for 60 years and I learnt how to tie it by remembering that the part you first put over the other one also goes over again.

What does it mean by make sure the 2 terminal ends are on 1 side of the knot, or you may have made a thief knot. I'm watching the video on thief knots side by side with this one and i can't see any difference at all between the finished knots, even in the spot of the thief knot video where he's explaining the same thing about making sure it's not a square knot.

The reef knot is made of 4 half hitches 2 clockwise and 2 anticlockwise it is a binding knot which should only be used in the same bit of rope and should not be used as a bend to tie 2 ropes together as it is unsafe for that use
