I do this and it works like a charm. I use masons twine,, available at HD or Lowe's , its strong and won't stretch or rot in weather. All you do is weave the plants as they grow between the rows of twine for support. Put the stakes between plants,, not next to them. At the end of the season cut the twine and roll it up to use again. I don't use the PVC pipe.. why bother?
@Brenda-uv2hy

Do you wind the string around the pipe or is it inside the pipe?.......can"t tell from the video how he has it on there.

so how high do they grow before you have to tie off another length? do you tie every 6" high or 12" high? thats a great idea, and I'd like to give it a try this season!

3 layers of masons twine works for me. Depends on the variety of plant and height. I've been doing this for 2 years now and its the best method over my 40 years of gardening. Easy, cheap and fast.

@daddio7249

Pause the video and look at his. He took a 3 ft piece of 3/4 pvc pipe and screwed three or four screw eyes into it in a row on one side. He threaded the twine through them and he grips the twine with his hand to provide tension to keep it tight. Looks like you could just drill a hole near each end and run the twine from inside the pipe and out at the top and outside in at the bottom. No screw eyes needed. You probably have some in a drawer, they come in picture hanging kits.
