This video worked perfectly, thank you so much. I bought a 7 7/8ths because the only sizes for this great deal on my Texans Draft day hat was 7 1/8, 7 1/4, 7 3/8, 7 7/8, and 8. Because the 1/2 and 3/4th were all sold out so I had to buy a little bigger. The sale was $13.99 for a $39 hat... so obviously I took that deal. You saved me so much time and hassle.

Thanks for the video! The hat I'm wearing in my photo is a size too big but I didn't realise until I bought another hat (and my friend told me) as I'd never bought a new era cap before. And I always feel conscious wearing it because it's too big but I got it in NYC in 2011 so obviously it's a great hat and I want to wear it! Anyway I tried the cotton wool and it's worked a treat! Thanks from the UK!

Sorry about the delay getting back to you. Yeah, it's amazing how inconsistently hats are sized! And you're definitely right, making an online purchase and not being able to try them on at a store is definitely a gamble. As far as the cotton ball technique is concerned, you can also get an old t-shirt, cut it up into strips, and use a strip or two tucked between the sweat band and the crown. Anyway, I'm glad my video helped. Take care!

try using a liberal amount of spray starch both inside and outside of hat before stretching .almost to the point of soaking ,then put over stretcher and allow to dry .hat will remain well formed and standing up as well as stretched. you can also use an upside down coolwhip container or the like with a small towel folded over it for the stretching

Sorry about the delay. I've noticed that hats that are too tight seem to tighten back up after taking them off after they've been loosened up on the hat-shaping ball. It seems to take a few hours for them to tighten back up. I'm not sure if wetting them down while they are stretching out on the hat shaper helps or not but I have heard that this will help keep them loose. So basically I stretch them out on the hat shaper, wear them, and then they gradually tighten back up. Have you noticed this?

How about a brim that is hitting the forehead on one side more? The way to have a comfortable fit it to have it at an angle. I need to adjust the bill on one side to push it out a bit.

JJP, Put your hat in the bathroom when you take a hot shower. When you get out put on the hat and shape it to your head and keep it on until it's dry. Then it'll keep the new stretched size and won't shrink back down after you take it off.

Very true! They should be better at making their hats consistently sized. I've tried on size 7 1/2 hats that were too tight and size 7 3/8 hats that were too loose. One hat I had I ended up getting rid of because there was simply no loosening it. It was a size 7 3/8 that I ordered from New Era, as opposed to buying it from a store where I could have tried it on. I swear it would have been too tight for even a 7 1/4 head, fitting more like a size 7 head, two sizes too small for my 7 3/8 hat size.

Thanks for the comment man! Even as a 7 3/8, I find that there is a huge difference between even the same size. I guess the best bet is to go into the store, try on every one of them until you find one that fits the best, and go with that one. You'd think that they would be better at making them more consistently sized. Anyway man, I'm glad my video helped. Cheers!

Same here! I also notice that some hats seem to have softer, more comfortable sweat bands than other hats. The on-field Sox hat in this particular video has a very stiff sweat band making it quite uncomfortable to wear. You would think that they would be better at sizing them.
