Yeah he may well have planned it all out properly but he didn't tell us that, so starting the first time right up against the wall is potentially a terrible mistake, since I have never encountered a 100% square wall
@coalreigoncoalcracke

You only do that if you want to cut EVERY single end. There's nothing wrong with using a wall as square... the rare occasion where it will not be square is worth it over the added hours to cut every single end tile.

You are not a tiler in any sense of the word, you used no tanking system and then you broke the cardinal sin and used ready mixed adhesive in a bathroom. Back buttering the tiles is also not the right way, spread the wall, not the tile.

I've been tilin 8 years & my dad 25. Never in this time have either of us used a baton (pointless in my opinion!) Don't understand why people waste time digging the spacers out! (Just grout with them in) Don't go full tile of one wall incase you get small cut on other side. The wall could be out so you are could be left with a gap at the top or nippin couple of mil of the tiles.

If you nail up a straight edge to a laser level mark you can insure a perfectly straight line of tiles. timber batons can bow and bend which can be a nighmare when working with a low quality out of square ceramic tile.

How do you "clean the mortar out" of the tiles before applying grout?? Good video, however, I wish there was just a little more detail in positioning of tile and measurements.

are you kiddin me? you cut all the spacers? just stick them in sideways... easier to get them out too and putting the adhesive on the back of the tile is called back buttering

As usual you make it look easy, however as usual, you left out a couple small details. Why do How-to videos always leave out the part about measuring and cutting the end pieces, the bull nose pieces, corner pieces and the freaking window? Obviously anybody can figure out how to put in the straight tiles.

Why didnt you fill the bath with water first? i thought that the bath expands/moves downwards when the bath is full, hence why you should tile whilst the bath is full, otherwise it leaves a gap? im about to start on my bathroom now, wish me luck! *gulp*

This is demonstrating exactly the opposite of what a good tiling job should be like, started in the wrong place so the ends will not match, assumes the walls are straight (which they never are), and use pre-mix cement . this is amateur hour !!!

What about the corners, that's what I was watching this for :-( did they butt the tiles on the right hand side in past the tiles they laid on the batten? Or do they leave both with a gap and then put the grout in the gap?

I always level the bath, fill it with heavy stuff or water, seal around it, then start on top of the bath. Having a gap between the bath and the tiles can be a disaster when it leaks.

please why all the shit your giving them?? Look he worked out the wall easy, the first tile was right as thats the way he set it up! if he wanted centre tile he would have and sorted out the rips for all four edges. Yeah the plum bobs abit dated, the only thing missing from this video was the area around the window???? It looked really good but needed to show others how, thats the most difficult part. Oh and guys its just to help people learn of it. its you tube not college!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@imjustpassinthru , Ceramic only...if you're cutting natural stone, you need a tile saw. You can get a pretty decent one for $150 or so, or rent for $50-$60 a day.

@kinstar YES!, always consult a recommended tiler.. Or a local specialist tile ware house..if unsure. The adhesive is of utmost importance, adhesives vary from different tile types and areas. Grout should be only be used after tiling has been left to dry (24hrs) reccomended adhesives are the BAL adhesives and grouts.
