This is so fundamental to the flip turn but surprisingly, good videos of learning the skill omitted this point.

Crazy I watched so many Flipturns videos on youtube and I got quiet good at it but I was always gassed after a view turns. This is like the only video that talks about breathing even though its by far the trickiest part about it. Much appreciated

practicing flips turns is a work out in its self. warm up and then start behind the flags, swim fast into the wall then swim back to past the flags.

yes right on explanation... it would help also to tuck into a tight ball so that you remain closer to the surface

Coach,Mandy. I know this is a little off topic, but I was wondering if you should. Also, hold your breathe when gliding into the wall on an open turn, as well

Yes, think of it as gently reserving the exhale for the turn itself. This way you have enough air throughout until you break free for the first stroke off the wall. ✅😎

at squad we used to get told off if didn't hold breath from 3 strokes before the flip turn and 3 after. was torture.

Curious on your thoughts on the old “don’t breeze inside the flags”? I agree with the method in the video but still hear my old coach in my head.

Not necessary when swimming towards the wall but your push off after the turn should break free at the flags. You need the air when swimming towards the wall and many professional swimmers breathe on 1’s right before the wall for distance. If your breathing form is correct, it will not slow you down. ✅

After the turn when do you breath again before the first stroke or second

I'm wondering how "hard" are you blowing bubbles once you initiate the turn? I struggle with maintaining the steady breathing out resulting in not having enough oxygen after the turn is complete and I'm in the streamline position.

If you’re struggling with not enough exhale remaining after the turn, then your exhale was too aggressive towards the beginning. Try dialing it back so you can feel a steady, even exhale throughout the flip. You’ll be surprised you don’t need too much. ✅

@@SWIMVICE I need to work on it. I suppose I’m taken by the excitement of going into a turn every time, and I forget to relax. (Plus I don’t want any water up my nose 😅). Thank you for the reply. 🙌🏻

How close to the wall do I go before I flip?

Thank you for subscribing! Your support means a lot. In regards to your question, I get surprisingly close to the wall before executing a flip turn. However, to really refine this part of the skill, I have a comprehensive drill progression in my SWIMVICE program specifically for flip turns. It's designed to help you master this crucial aspect of swimming. You can find more information at linktr.ee/swimvice. Keep up the great work and keep pushing your limits in the pool! Best, Coach Mandy
