Thanks so much for this! In the past, I've always created my timelapses (mostly of the Northern Lights) in camera. The other night, I decided to just take the series of photos... with the intention of creating a star trail image. The Aurora had other ideas though so I ended up having to convert those stills to a timelapse on the computer. I had already viewed one other video about creating a timelapse in Resolve but yours was so much more useful! I will say that I was shooting RAW on a Nikon camera (NEF) and was able to create the timelapse without converting to DNG. A couple of things that may be useful for others: 1) this method only works if you import a whole folder at once. I initially tried selecting a subset of files from a folder and Resolve failed to create a sequence. Instead, I had a slide show rather than a timelapse video. 2) as someone else mentioned, if you're using the free version, when changing the timeline settings, use the target video resolution (eg. 1920x1080 or 3840x2160) instead of the size of your import files and set the Mismatched Resolutions setting to "Scale full frame with crop". With a little trial and error, I managed to get a very nice time lapse. Thank you!

Tip for those using the free version, when changing the Timeline Settings, set the resolution to your preferred size, then down in the option for Mismatched Resolutions and set it to "Scale full frame with crop" to remove any black bars in the final video. On the Edit page in the Inspector panel you can then change the the X and Y position values to reframe if needed. Also, don't change the settings in Adobe DNG to "Use lossy compression", it seems like a great idea to save some space but Resolve won't be able to read the files.

Thanks! For the black bars, can't you just use the zoom or scale parameter to get rid of them? And great tip for the dng converter!

@@MatthewVandeputte Yes, you can use the Zoom transform, I just find changing the timeline settings make it easier to get a pixel perfect size, plus it applies to every clip in the timeline if you're working with multiple clips.

Thanks for this. It's great to be able to skip Lightroom and LRTimelapse (in terms of reducing editing time - they're great programmes after all) but would be keen to get your opinion on Davinci's timelapse deflicker (Studio version) and if you think it does as good a job, or better, than LRTimelapse. If it does, I can see this Davinci workflow being a huge timesaver. I also love your method for ramping using a clip on the layer above, previously I have done this on the single clip with keyframes - your method is much quicker and easier!

However when I 'import' those dngs into Davinci and no matter which 'Decode Using' option I select -- I can't get the same image edits to come up in Davinci - It's still like only the original raw file image.

I'm very confused. I've done video editing for 12+ years, but on a different program. Here I'm spending 98% of my time with the video paused. Just trying to make my screen look like what you've got to click on. Is you display options default or very personalised? Because i have next to none of your tabs and options visible?. You have 1 video preview. When in Edit Tab I start with 2. ......I've just solved that with single viewer mode in top right. Next all these right side options. I have nothing visible. I've clicked around for a few minutes. Cant see how to make all those options appear. Next bottom left tab options (crossfade, dissolve, tool box") i have none of those options visible to use. I right click in their area to see if i have these options to add to screen view...nothing. I go to view tab above to see if i can add them.....nothing. I now cant do anything your showing. Im now going to have to search for other tutorial videos just to make these options visible. Am I the only one starting fresh with this program having this problem?

The issue is, whenever I import video footage or photos from my Iphone to my mac, they all get saved in the download folder as folders & not as files with thumbnails. So, I have to individually open (200 photo folders)each photo which is saved as folder then arrange them all in one folder, it's only then I can drag them in my Davinci timeline for them to be recognised as one timelapse file otherwise, it will display them as individual photos. Do you know how I can import/transfer photos from Iphones & have them appear in my mac's download folder as files and not folders?

There is a Deflicker effect, you can find it in the Edit page, there's an Effect toggle up the top left. In the Effect panel it's under Open FX > Filters > Resolve FX Revival or you can just search "deflicker". Just drag it to your clip and adjust the Deflicker Settings to Timelapse.
