Great starting point. Thank you for sharing this. Now, this seems like it'd work great for a business, office or store with a somewhat of a constant operation. I'm a small business owner whose business just launched a product and we're seeing some growth. Being that this table seems to gather historical averages, it would be incredibly slow for it to catch up to a growing business that all of a sudden is using (going with the toilet paper example) 3 times as much TP as last month. Is there a way to have ut gather these averages only from the last 45 days of "usages" or something like that?

This is great! Do you have a follow up video planned that explains how to set up a check in/check out process? Rather than a user-facing ordering system, orders made by an in-house team?
@GarethPronovost
4 жыл бұрын
Hey Tami - no I didn't plan that video yet, but that's a great idea. There are so many layers to a full inventory system, I didn't want to overwhelm in this video. But yes, the full system would include the ability for a team to place bulk orders with suppliers, track those orders, and then record them as they are received. I'll add this to ideas for future videos!

@@GarethPronovost Got it! Thanks for the response. I've been looking for best practices on an inventory system that is geared toward rentals, that the warehouse team can create and print a list of multiple items to be pulled for one customer, then checked back in at the end of the rental period. That's how I found you!

Hi Gareth, thanks for the video! How do you do when you want to track inventory of an item than comes from multiple suppliers ? Thanks for your help, Pierre from France 🧀
@GarethPronovost
4 жыл бұрын
Hey Pierre, great question. If the inventory is the exact same item, you might consider using a junction table between your supplier and inventory. This will allow you to create specific records for the unique intersection of supplier + item. You can check out our video on junciton tables here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/kn953WVorKOoeZw

Wonderful! How would you handle multiple locations where inventory is stocked? If for example a small business has 2 locations and they want to track their inventory in one Airtable?
@GarethPronovost
3 жыл бұрын
Hi! You could add another table for location and roll up those inventory counts separately for each location. I think you'd want a junction table between Location and Inventory Item to get accurate counts 🤞
@yanngraf_com

Hi, I was wondering if you managed to do it. I want to do exactly this. But at the moment, I'm uncertain how to integrate the "location" part.
@annafilou
2 жыл бұрын
@@yanngraf_com I did it, in a different way. To simply it: I have two sheets, one called items and another called movements. Each movement is linked to one item and has a "warehouse" single-select field. So if I move 10 units if Item A from Warehouse 1 to Warehouse 2, then I create two rows in warehouse movements: 1. Item A, -10 units, Warehouse 1 2. Item A, +10 units, Warehouse 2 In the items sheet I'd have two roll-up columns, one titled Warehouse 1 and the other Warehouse 2. Warehouse 1 rolls up the units from the movements sheet IF warehouse = warehouse 1. Similarly for warehouse 2. Of course it works with more warehouses.

@@annafilou Thanks Anna, it's probaly the route I will go done as well. I tried a junction table, but I don't think this was what I needed.

If I am using your table to inventory uniforms. I have one item that is, let's say shirts, but I have 5 different sizes (XS-XXL), would I need to list each individual pair of pants on a different line. I'm guessing yes.
@GarethPronovost

Yes indeed - I'd list the UPC (in this case, shirt #1) and then create multiple records of it, each in different sizes

Hey, this is great! Thanks, I'm wondering though, my 'date span' seems to go crazy (infinity) if the sale = today. Do you know what I may be doing wrong?
@GarethPronovost

Hey Kasandra - interesting! I'm not sure what might cause that, but I'd start by checking the timezone settings on the fields you're using. These settings often confuse the formula fields!

Hi Gareth, I would like to create a based for our inventory pricing list, but the price is dynamic - pulling from website, is that even possible?
@GarethPronovost

Hey Roy, sure it is! You will need to connect to your website through an API to keep the data in your database up to date, but it's possible (depending on what you use for your website).

Hi Quanisha - it sounds like you are using the recipe template from the Airtable Universe, is that right? I didn't build that template so I don't know the ins and outs of it - does it say who the author is? We build all our databases from scratch so I'm not really informed about the templates out there.
